Chuck Schuldiner, who many consider to be one of the founding fathers of death metal, has lost his battle with pontine glioma, a rare brain tumor. According to Empty Words, the official Death/Control Denied website, Chuck passed on December 13th at 4pm ET.
Schuldiner was diagnosed two years ago with a malignant brain tumor and was battling for his life ever since. Earlier this year, Schuldiner was brought to Los Angeles to take part in a trial for a still experimental chemotherapy agent called Vincristine. Although the family was assured that the drug is virtually non-toxic in nature, the large dosage which Schuldiner received over the span of five days did indeed poison him causing residual difficulties and weakness which he has been recovering from since. Schuldiner was making progress and gaining his strength back day by day but his health took a turn for the worse in recent weeks.
Chuck's fight was strong, as was his passion, and he will be remembered as one of the most influential forces in the genre.
A memorial has been started at EmptyWords and we encourage you to post your thoughts with the legions of Chuck's fans.
We at KNAC.COM send our warmest condolences to Chuck's family and friends and wish him well on his new journey.
