Somewhere sandwiched in between Mike Patton’s new bands Tomahawk and Fantomas is Lovage, the hip hop-lounge side project outfit. The Serge Gainsbourg-inspired quartet also includes Gorillaz member Dan The Automator, Dj Kid Koala and vocalist Jennifer Charles Of Elysian Fields. A debut album was released earlier this year entitled Nathaniel Merriweather presents Lovage: Music to Make Love to Your Old Ladyand featured guest appearances by Prince Paul, De La Soul's Maseo and Damon Albarn. The album is a sort of spin-off of Dan The Automator’s Handsome Boy Modeling School concept album, which was inspired by Chris Elliot’s cult series Get A Life. Merriweather is a character from Handsome Boy Modeling School.
Lovage take their name from the herb that is said to be of benefit for relieving abdominal pains due to gastrointestinal gas.
