Rumor has it that drummer Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), guitarist Dan Spitz (ex-Anthrax) and bassist Dave Ellefson (ex-Megadeth) have been jamming together, and may progress into something more productive -- after Maiden completes their 13th studio album (due out sometime in 2003) and finishes gigging around the European summer festival circuit. Fu Manchu have decided to get in the van with Steamhammer/SPV for the European release of their upcoming double live CD, Go For It – Live. An early 2003 release is planned. The live set was recorded on the US leg of the "California Crossing" tour in 2002, and will include approximately 22 songs spanning the band's 12-year history. With material ranging from early tunes like "Wurkin'" to current tracks like "Squash That Fly."

Lo-Pro -- featuring drummer Tommy Stewart (ex-Godsmack), vocalist Pete Murray and guitarist Neil Godfrey (both of Ultraspank) -- will begin recording their debut album with producer Don Gilmore (TRUSTcompany).

Drummer Peter Criss (KISS) will appear at a fan "meet-and-greet"-styled event at Holiday Inn in King of Prussia, PA this Saturday, January 4th, 2003.

Slave to the System -- consisting of drummer Scott Rockenfield (Queensryche), guitarist Kelly Gray (ex-Queensryche), Brother Cane guitarist and bassist (respectively) Damon Johnson and Roman Glick, and vocalist Scotty Heard (Sweaty Nipples) -- will begin working on their sophomore release this month, anticipating a late spring release.

Saxon have pushed back the release of their forthcoming double-disc DVD, The Saxon Chronicles, to an undetermined March date. The package will also include a bonus live audio CD. More details as it’s available.

Alabama Thunderpussy just completed the filming of a video for the track “Motor-Ready” (from Staring at the Divine) with director Cale Bunker, and is scheduled to release soon. Look for the vinyl version of Staring At the Divine to surface on Relapse soon. The deluxe LP will come housed with a bonus clear 7" containing exclusive tracks.

Lion Music is set to release Reign of Terror’s latest effort, Conquer and Divide in “early 2003.” ROT features vocalist Mike Vescera (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen/Loudness) and Mats Olausson (Malmsteen). Conquer and Divide is said to be “high energy pedal to the metal power metal at it's best.”

Skid Row are still looking for a viable label deal, and hope to release their latest effort, ThickSkin as soon as possible.

God Dethroned's new album, Into the Lungs of Hell, is slated to feature a limited edition bonus CD, featuring live recordings from various Los Angeles, CA shows and two video clips for “Villa Vampiria” and “Under the Golden Wings of Death,” and is scheduled for release on February 11th, 2003 through Metal Blade Records.

Guitarist Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction) is going out on a limb, collaborating with pop crooner Michelle Branch, for her forthcoming recording effort. Jane's Addiction's own upcoming studio effort, Hypersonic, still doesn't have an exact release date, but played 3 new tracks from it live on New Year's Eve in Los Angeles, CA at the Wiltern. (And they kicked ass! -Ed.)

Slayer’s live DVD, War at the Warfield, is slated for release on February 11th, 2003.

Suicidal Tendencies will begin working on a new studio album this month, with hopes to release by the end of summer. More info as it’s available.

Soilent Green will also begin working on their next studio album, to be released through Relapse Records, and should begin touring by the summer.

Phil Anselmo’s Superjoint Ritual will begin recording their sophomore album in February 2003, and tentatively plan a late summer release through Sanctuary. In other Anselmo news, Down have a DVD in the works, and might possibly tour Europe in late Spring.

Godsmack have a tentative release date of April 8th for their third album, Faceless. In other news, Godsmack will perform New Year’s Eve at the Hard Rock Café in Orlando, FL with Sevendust.

Michael Monroe's (Hanoi Rocks) solo album, Whatcha Want, will be released on January 27th, 2003.

The Gathering’s latest effort, Souvenirs, is slated for a February 24th, 2003 release in Europe, and March 12th, 2003 for the rest of the world through Psychonaut Records. The band plans to tour extensively through Europe as well as Mexico. They, in fact, state that all of 2003 will be spent on touring in support of Souvenirs.

Mega photographer/video director Herb Ritts has passed away at the age of 50 from complications from pneumonia.

Stone Sour plan to issue some unreleased tracks for their fans in the coming months, and are contemplating on how exactly to go about doing it, as to keeping the cost down, so it may be released as a 3-song digipack. More details to come.

Cheap Trick will release a new album on January 22nd, 2003 (Japan), and will include a bonus track, “Special One,” which is sung in Japanese by Robin Zander. Also, Cheap Trick filmed the song “Surrender” as part of a bar scene that will be included in the new Eddie Murphy/Jeff Garlin film, Daddy Day Care. (Thanks, Mitch Lafon!)

Due to a family emergency, Testament drummer Jon Allen will not be able to perform at the upcoming shows scheduled for late December 2002 and early January 2003. John Tempesta (Rob Zombie) will fill in during that time.

Sammy Hagar will be performing at New George's Nightclub at 842-4th St. in San Rafael, CA on Monday, December 23rd, 2002. At 3:00 p.m. they will be accepting $25.00 gift certificates, toys, clothing and donations in exchange for a ticket to the show on that evening. The donations will benefit, the Ritter House and Homeward Bound agencies where they assist the underprivileged in this local area. Foundrynews.com is reporting the rumor that Sum 41 have been offered the opening slot on Iron Maiden's forthcoming world tour. The band will be tied up most of the time, but may however find the time to join Maiden on the road.

Rob Zombie’s long-awaited Ramones tribute album, We’re A Happy Family, will hit the shelves in February, 2003. The album package will be loaded with tons of exclusive pictures and liner notes written by horror writer Stephen King. In other Zombie news, Drowning Pool were slated to record a tune on the Daredevil soundtrack this past summer, when singer Dave Williams passed away. The remaining members have approached Rob Zombie to lend his vocals to the unfinished track, in which he agreed to complete the song, “The Man Without Fear.” No release date has been confirmed yet for the soundtrack.

Stone Sour’s December 22nd gig in Omaha, NE has changed venues from Sokol Hall to Royal Grove. Write it down.

Of the 25 films chosen this year by the Library of Congress to be preserved, the 1984 classic, Spinal Tap, will be among the ranks of eternal flicks. Congressional Librarian James H. Billington says, "The selection of a film, I stress, is not an endorsement of its ideology or content, but rather a recognition of the film's importance in American film and cultural history and history in general."

Jane’s Addiction have set summer of 2003 to release their next album, Hypersonic, which is being produced by Bob Ezrin (Kiss, Alice Cooper). In the meantime, the band -- consisting of original members Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro and Stephen Perkins -- will be joined by new bassist Chris Chaney (who replaced Martyn Le Noble in August) for a handful of gigs:

Vocalist Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) has begun work on his second solo album, which is tentatively scheduled for release next Spring, and will contain appearances from Sheryl Crow, as well as others.

The Queens Of The Stone Age will appear on Last Call With Carson Daly on December 27th, 2002.

Michael Monroe’s solo album, Whatcha Want, will be released on January 27th, 2003.

Scar Culture have parted ways with vocalist Pheroze Karai and touring drummer Alpheus Underhill. The band was forced to withdraw early from their tour with Origin, All That Remains and Crematorium. The remaining two members will continue to write for their next album in 2003.

The death of The Who’s John Entwistle doesn’t seem to be as clear-cut as the original reports of a cocaine overdose. A British coroner investigated Entwistle upon his return to his homeland for burial, and finds two different types of cocaine in his system (no alcohol), but says that the doses would not be lethal to a person with a healthy heart, surmising that Entwistle must have had some sort of naturally occurring heart disease.

Today would have marked drummer Randy Castillo's 52nd birthday. Castillo passed away on March 26th, 2002 after a battle with cancer.

Queens of the Stone Age will be co-hosting MTV's "All Things Rock" tonight, December 17th at 11:30pm.

It’s official: Halford guitarist Patrick Lachman has departed the band (on good terms) to pursue his other band, Diesel Machine full time. Halford will begin immediately auditioning new guitarists.

Brand New Sin will be shooting a cameo in a new Jack Black movie, tentatively titled “School Of Rock.” The film, which is being directed by Richard Linklater (“Slackers”, “Dazed And Confused”), also stars Joan Cusack. The film’s story center’s around Black's character, who poses as a 5th grade substitute teacher and adds teaching them how to be a rock band to the curriculum. Brand New Sin will be featured in a segment demonstrating how to rock, which they will film in New York City from Dec 16th - 19th. Unfortunately, this means the groups shows in Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland set for those dates will be postponed until the beginning of January. In other news, drummer Mike “Beave” Rafferty has recently departed BNS. Local drummer Kevin Dean has joined the band in the meantime.

Faith and Fire is a newly-formed band consisting of current and ex members of Riot, Mike Flyntz and Tony Moore, as well as bassist Danny Miranda (Blue Oyster Cult) and drummer John Micelli (Meatloaf). Faith and Fire anticipate the release of their 13-song CD sometime in Spring/Summer of 2003.

King's X will headline their own tour in February, in support of their latest release, Manic Moonlight. Confirmed dates so far are as follows:

Our buddy, writer Mitch Lafon, gives us this following scoop: “KISS has confirmed three shows in Japan at the Budokan in March, with [drummer] Peter Criss, but NO ACE (so far). No word on who might be the guitarist if Ace balks. Prong is currently finishing their European tour, supporting the recent live album release "PRONG 100%" will be returning to the USA to start their new studio album.

The current incarnation of PRONG includes singer/guitarist/founder Tommy Victor, bassist Brian Perry and drummer Dan Laudo. The band also has been accompanied on tour by guitarist Monte Putnam, a longtime friend of Tommy Victor and an alumnus of Madonna's recent Drowned World Tour.

Halford is set to for a New Year's Eve concert at Canes Bar & Grill in Rob Halford's current residence, San Diego, California. Also appearing at the show will be TESTAMENT, VIO-LENCE and EXHUMED(NOT SHADOWS FALL, as erroneously announced by the club). Tickets are priced at $40.00 and are available at the Canes Box Office between 11:30 a.m. and sunset daily (cash only) or at Ticketmaster / 619-220-TIXS.

Recently reunited Twisted Sister, have announced two Euro Shows next yea. The Sweden Rock festival and now they have now been officially confirmed to headline the 2003 edition of Bang Your Head Festival, scheduled to take place Jun. 27-28, 2003 in Balingen, Germany. In other TS news, Metal Sludge is reporting that Twisted Sister is set to join Poison on their annual Summer run next year, barring a joing up with Judas Priest, which would be the first choice of Dee and Co.

Slayer has announced that February 11, 2003 will be the release date for their new DVD, War At The Warfield. The DVD features footage of the band’s show at The Warfield in San Francisco, which was one of ex-drummer Paul Bostaph’s final appearances with the band before he exited in late 2001. Speaking of Bostaph, he recently teamed up with Systematic to record their second effort Pleasure To Burn, due to be released through Elektra Records in 2003

Crematorium (Prosthetic Records) will hit the road on tour in support of their latest release For All Our Sins, with Origin, Scar Culture and labelmates All That Remains.

Stoner-Rockers Fu Manchu will perform at The Casbah in San Diego on Friday (12/13) and The Detroit Bar in Orange County on Saturday (12/14). Speaking of the Manchu’s the band plans to hit the studio to mix tracks for a new live album on Monday (12/2) with producer/engineer Brian Joseph Dobbs, known for his work with ManMadeGod and Echobrain. The Cd, Go For It Live should drop in early 2003.

Nile and Malevolent Creation have recently been added to the performance roster for the 2003 Wacken Open Air festival in Germany, set for July 31 through August 2. Confirmed performers also include Iced Earth, Stratovarius, Gamma Ray and Dark Angel.

Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons have written a new 192-page book called, Kiss: The Early Years, set to be released on November 26. The ten-chapter book dedicates one chapter per major event in the band’s career, and includes over 250 rare photos.

Zakk Wylde is in the studio recording the next Black Label Society album, titled "THE BLESSED HELLRIDE." Zakk is recording bass parts tonight and Monday, and Craig is wrapping up drums this weekend. The record will be released in the spring of 2003, with tour plans to be announced at that time. Zakk is also going to be talking with Ozzy about the possibility of a new Ozzy record for 2003.

Tony Campos, bass-man for Static-X / Asesino joined the Colombian metal band AGONY (www.agonyreborn.com) in a headlining show in Bogota/Colombia Nov. 10th in front of 100.000 people. The show was the first one of the "Reborn" album tour for AGONY, that will include America & Europe next year.

Metal Blade Records has signed Rockford, Illinois based, The Heavils

Former White lion singer Mike Tramp is currently recording his next album in Denmark and Toto member and guitarist extraordinaire Steve Lukather will play guitar on a couple of songs.

Brian Slagel, CEO and founder of Metal Blade Records, will be participating in on air interview with sports television network TSN out of Canada. (TSN is the equivalent of ESPN) The interview will take place on Thursday, November 21 on one of the networks shows called Off The Record.

Sound clips of the forthcoming Hanoi Rocks album "Twelve Shots On The Rocks" album can be heard on their website here. The clips will be embedded on the front page and there will be a new song every day. The front page will be updated around 6:00 - 7:00 am (GMT) daily. According to the distributors, the new Hanoi Rocks album will be released on November 28th in Finland and on December 2nd in the rest of the Scandinavia. Asia,Europe and USA release dates will be revealed later this month.

David Lee Roth, originally scheduled to perform Saturday, December 7, 2002 at the Aladdin Theatre in Las Vegas, has cancelled. No report as to why the cancellation, but refunds are available at Ticketmaster, sans their fees of course.

Fireball Ministry just finished up tracking most of the new full length album at Grandmaster Recorders here in Hollywood. Be looking for a Spring release date. Turning the knobs this time out are producers, Nick Raskulinecz and Andrew Alekel. If you are local to LA, on Wednesday, November 20th, they will be playing at Club Lingerie with Wild Gift and will be joined by Brad Davis from Fu Manchu on Bass performing some of the new songs from the upcoming album.

Supagroup has signed to Foodchain records. Currently in the studio right now with producer Trina Shoemaker (Queens of the Stone Age, Sheryl Crow) and the record should be finished in December.
