Pantera’s official web site gives the following update: “Many of you have been asking what is happening with Pantera. Well the guys all have other stuff they are working on at the moment. Vinnie & Dime are hard at work on a New Found Power record. Philip & Rex are at home at the moment. When there is more to tell, I will post it here. There are a few things going on you should know about. “Riffer Madness” is finally going to hit the shelves. It's a book that has all of the lessons Dime did in Guitar World Magazine. I will post the release date as soon as we get it. Also, Dragonfly Clothing is doing a line of Pantera Merchandise!. That will be coming soon too. In the meantime check out all the other stuff that Dragonfly sells.”

Helloween are getting ready to release their latest studio effort, Rabbit Don’t Come Easy, tentatively on April 6th. Here’s the catch: there are 3 different drummers on the album. However, Stefan Schwarzmann (ex-Accept, ex-UDO) was then tapped to officially replace Cross, and laid down percussion on the bonus/B-side tracks which may appear on the forthcoming album!

Tarrington will join Halford in the summer to see how things work out, although they will continue to audition guitarists to be sure they’ve covered all potential candidates.

In other Halford news, they will be joining Testament and Death Angel, Vio-lence, Exhumed, Cattle Decapitation and Implaed at this year’s Bay Area Thrash Festival on March 29th in San Francisco, CA at the Avalon Ballroom.

Bassist Jason Newsted (Voivod) had some “words” regarding his former band, Metallica, in a recent interview with Britain’s Rock Sound Magazine: "It's a joke, I think Metallica are just a joke. I don't think they have any idea. I am fan of Metallica again, I did my thing in there and felt good and I'm proud of that shit and I am more proud than sour. But that's the integrity down the fucking tube! Why can't they take out Strapping Young Lad, why can't they take out In Flames? What they are doing now is such an obvious cash thing and has nothing to do with the music that we're supposed to be fighting for. [Guitarist] Kirk [Hammett got quoted about their new record sounding like Entombed. How can it sound like Entombed, how? Who is playing bass to make it sound like Entombed? James [Hetfield] is a good bass player, but c'mon, dude! Lars [Ulrich] — he hasn't practiced enough drums over the years — he let his art fall away from him, he doesn't have the same finesse as he used to have, so how is it going to sound like Entombed and have that energy? And anyway if they are speaking like that how come they are not talking Entombed out on tour? Or Meshuggah — how came they are not staying true to their words? That's what really bothers me."

And speaking of Metallica, the dates to their upcoming “Summer Sanitarium” tour (with Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Deftones and Mudvayne) have begun to come in. Gigs so far include:
