Devin Townsend is a non-stop machine! He’s got a bunch of tours coming up, soundtracking a video game, a new project called “Kermit,” a new book, a new SYL song and EP, and a heavy metal puppet show!

Here’s an update offered from his official site to keep you posted on all his latest happenings:
This year has been crazy with shows. There was the Nile/Napalm Death tour January, three local shows, “All In The Family Tour” of Europe with Strapping Young Lad, The Devin Townsend band and Zimmer’s Hole together. Right away SYL went off with Meshuggah, came home to immediately fly off to Europe for festival shows in both Sweden and the Netherlands.
DTB is playing a show in Vancouver at The Royal (may change, check website for more up-to-date information) on July 18th and 19th, two nights as the venue is small. SYL goes off to do the Milwaukee Metal Fest right before starting another US tour with Samael/Cathedral beginning in August through September then on the way home the “All in the Family” tour starts up again for SYL, DTB, and ZH shows across Canada, festivals in Seattle, a show in Las Vegas, a festival in Cloverdale, BC. Following is Australia for SYL, then DTB goes to Europe, probably in November.
The dates for the upcoming US/Canadian tour are as follows (check tour dates). Again, changes are likely. And again, we do not book the tours, Dates are determined by availability of venues and travel/tour time as well as budget. This is not complete but what I know at this time.
Video game soundtrack participation
Devin is currently working hard on the soundtrack for a video game for Interplay Entertainment called “Fallout,” the third in a series. It is stimulating his ambient side and he is finding it a nice challenge, though difficult to write with restrictions. We have no idea at this time when the game will be available on the market.
New project : "Kermit"
Devin has started a project with one of his engineers named Dan Kearley called Kermit. We hope to have a full record to be available as a bonus with the next DT record, which is already a few songs into the writing. They are hoping that Kermit will be a fun, live improvised multimedia thing.
Dev, Master of puppets !!!
Some of you may have read interviews lately with Devin discussing his desire to do a “heavy metal puppet show.” The project involves many friends and colleagues, including Chris Valagao of Zimmer’s Hole whose movie effects work gave him experience with Frank Oz. The aim will be to mix comedy and metal in short skits with, you know, evil sheep and all of the other things you would expect to see in a heavy metal puppet show. Many of the who’s-who in metal have already agreed to appear. Devin has called the series “Use Your Delusion” and will get to that when time allows. This isn’t a priority but a future plan he is working on.
New SYL song and EP release
Strapping has a new song written called Love for the upcoming EP that incorporates all of the heaviness of past Strapping with a bit of dark Infinity flair. The EP will contain 4 new songs and 4 cover songs. They have a huge list they are choosing from but will whittle it down before the studio. On the subject of cover songs SYL has also agreed to appear on an upcoming Melvin’s tribute album doing the song “Zodiac.”
Dev The writer
Devin has been writing a book called “Temperamental.” It will be the best of a bunch of random thoughts from over the past 5-6 years. Where the book will appear is still unknown. It may become part of an album insert, lyrics for a future project, or printed independently for mail order.
