The Summer Sanitarium concert on August 10th, 2003 was really awesome. It was the last day of the tour and it was Metallica’s hometown, San Francisco. I went with my friend Cara. I had just come back from camp and was sad about leaving there, so the concert took my mind off of that. It was great.

We got there at about 2:30 and got on the floor. We were pretty close. The first act to come on was Mudvayne. They rocked hard. I went fucking crazy as usual. They didn’t wear any make up or masks or anything. They were so fucking awesome! They really could rock the fuck out of the place. The crowd was right into it -- they weren’t mellow for the first band -- they got into it. They were supposed to play for 45 minutes but for some reason they only played for 30 minutes. They songs they played were “Silenced,” “Trapped In the Wake Of A Dream,” “Solve ET Coacula,” “World So Cold,” “Death Blooms,” “Mercy, Severity,” “Not Falling” and they closed with “Dig.” They fucking kicked ass and were the best supporting band there in my opinion!

Next was the Deftones. They were really good. I really like the style they have with their music. They played songs such as “Maneuver,” “Orgy” and “Change (In The House Of Flies).” They played for about 45 minutes. They did fucking rock!

Next was Linkin Park. We got really close when they were on. They came on strong and was ass kicking the whole time. I really liked them a lot, they just fucking rocked! Their set was over an hour long and they got the crowd to sing along a lot. They did. I went crazy. The songs they played were “Don’t Stay,” “Somewhere I Belong,” “Lying From You,” “Papercut,” “Runaway,” “Points Of Authority,” “Faint,” “With You (remix),” “Figure .09,” “By Myself,” “Pushing Me Away (remix),” “Numb,” “Crawling,” “In The End,” “A Place For My Head,” and they closed with “One Step Closer.” We all went fucking crazy for the last song. Linkin Park kicked so much ass!

Next we took a break from the floor. Limp Bizkit was next and we weren’t that excited about then, so we rested on the seats during the set change and the first half of Limp Bizkit’s act. They weren't that bad -- actually pretty good compared to what I expected. The new guitarist is not as good as Wes, though. They didn’t play “Rollin’” which was good ‘cause I fucking hate that song. They were supposed to play for and hour and fifteen minutes but they only played for 45 minutes for some reason. The songs they played were “Hot Dog,” “Livin' It Up,” “My Generation,” “Full Nelson,” “Break Stuff,” “My Way,” “Take A look Around.” Then they played the Metallica song “Welcome Home (Sanitarium).” Then they played a new song “Eat You Alive.” Then was “Nookie” and they closed with “Faith.” They weren’t that bad, but next was Metallica!

Metallica’s set change took over an hour. But when they came on, it was worth it! They really rocked it and played a lot of classic songs. They crowd really welcomed them home. They seemed very happy to be on stage and seemed to be having a lot of fun playing, it was the most obvious band that you could see were having fun that I’ve ever seen live! They were really good and made the crowd go crazy. I really went fucking crazy during their performance! They sounded very mature and fucking gave everything they got!

They played with “Battery,” “Master Of Puppets,” “Harvester Of Sorrow,” “Welcome Home (Sanitarium),” “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” “Frantic,” “Sad But True,” “St. Anger,” “No Remorse,” “Seek And Destroy” and they closed with “Blackened”. Then we all cheered for more so they came back oplaying an encore set. They played “Fuel” and “Nothing Else Matters.” Then for a minute Kirk did a short into of Ozzy’s “Crazy Train,” playing around. Also playing around, Lars did a thing on the guitar and Kirk did a thing on the drums. Then they played “Creeping Death” and left. The crowd did even more cheering for them to come back. Many were chanting “One, one, one!” So Metallica came back and did a second encore set! They played “One” and the crowed went crazy. Then they closed with their most famous song, “Enter Sandman.” When they were done everyone cheered and the band took a long time thanking everyone. Then we all left. It was a fucking awesome concert and I’m so glad I got to go!
