Hell On Earth, a heavy-techno band in the vein of Nine Inch Nails, Ministry and Marilyn Manson, is causing an enormous amount of controversy with their idea to allow their terminally-ill friend to “commit suicide” at one of their shows.
The show was originally scheduled to take place in St. Petersburg, Florida at the State Theatre, however after learning of their intentions, the Governor of Florida promptly banned their performance at this show, and urged all other venues to cancel their shows.
However, frontman BillY Tourtelot says he made an oath to his friend and will stand by it. BillY was quoted as saying, “This show is far more than a typical Hell On Earth performance. This is about standing up for what you believe in and I am a strong supporter of physician-assisted suicide. This performance will go on in its entirety and it will be [at an undisclosed location] in St. Petersburg on October 4th.” The “suicide” is to be conducted by a member of the Euthanasia Society, and shall be broadcast live via their website at: www.hellonearth.net.
Although the “friends” identity will remain anonymous until the concert, he says, “I thank the Lord that Hell On Earth is giving me this opportunity to end my suffering. I just want to say as my last will and testament that this is my God-given choice to end my life. I’d prefer to have a physician-assisted suicide, but until the laws are changed, those who are in pain like me will either have to continue to suffer or do it themselves.”
