REVIEW BY: Steve of Orange
First of all, before I start this review all I have to say is Anthrax f****d up!! Now on to the show.
I arrived at the Galaxy at 8:00 pm, and as I walked in to the theatre, I was surprised to see Joey hanging out in the lobby and meeting with fans, signing autographs, selling t-shirts and his latest CD entitled 03.
Joey was very cool answering every question we threw at him. He is a class act. He signed everything we put in front of him, took pictures with us and so on. We told him how much it sucked when Anthrax kicked him out and he agreed, but he’s marching on and doing just fine.
After three opening bands, which included an AC/DC tribute band called OC/DC, it was time for BELLADONNA.
As we posted up in front of the stage the lights went out and at 10:30 pm, the opening guitar riff of “AMONG THE LIVING” began. As the drums kicked in, Joey hit the stage with all the energy in the world -- just like the days with Anthrax.
With his trademark, half mic stand, Joey started belting out the lyrics and his voice was stronger than ever -- from one classic Anthrax song to the next, to mixing in his solo stuff, which kicks ass. Joey had one hell of a band with him, a three piece, which sounded like a five piece -- very strong. The guitar player Matt Zuber, who plays on Joey’s latest CD, played the Anthrax songs perfectly. The drummer, Carlos Araya, kicked ass by playing the house set which was incredible, especially since it wasn’t his set. The highlight for me was when they did “Armed & Dangerous.” Joey’s voice was as strong as it gets. This show kicked ass -- all the classics, all the energy in the world. I only wish more people were at this show.
If you are a fan of old Anthrax, then you must go see JOEY BELLADONNA. Great show! After the songs, he thanked everyone for coming and supporting him. Before the show, Joey said how the Galaxy was probably too big of a venue for him to be playing, but he said he was going to have fun anyway. For only $15.00 bucks, he sang his ass off and gave one hell of a performance. These days a concert costs three times that amount for an hour and fifteen-minute show. Belladonna gives you two hours, plus. After it was over, I was still fired up. “Caught in a Mosh,” “Mad House,” “Medusa,” “In My World,” “N.F.L.,” just to name a few. As the show went on, Joey’s energy was incredible. I’m telling you, you have to see this guy live. It was probably one of the best shows I have been to this year. After the show, Joey and his band came out and sat on the amps to talk about the show and how awesome it was.
Here is the set list song for song:
1.Among the Living
2.Caught in a Mosh
6.In my World
8.I Am the Law
