KISS Live in Darien Lake, NY By Tokemaster General, Contributor Monday, August 2, 2004 @ 11:44 PM
To be honest, I was kind of getting away from KISS lately and was indifferent about this tour. I am glad Eric Singer is on the drums; he is 10 times the drummer Peter Criss is. Tommy Thayer is adequate; I thought he did a good job on KISS Symphony. I really don't like the idea of Tommy and Eric in Ace and Peter's make up (I feel if the band still wore the make up, new characters should be made for Thayer and Singer). The one thing that pushed me away from seeing KISS live again the most was that it seems every time you see KISS they play the exact same songs. I had a chance to see KISS 4th row center at Darien Lake and I figured well it was going to be a good show at least.
Well most of my reservations were shattered because tonight KISS were out to prove something, and they put on their best performance in years. They opened with “Love Gun” and played some of the expected staples like “Deuce” and “Detroit Rock City.” This time, however, they threw in some classics that I didn't expect like “Makin’ Love,” “Got to Choose,” “War Machine” and “Unholy” (which Gene used for his blood spitting). During “God Gave Rock ‘N Roll to You,” they showed a picture of Eric Carr, which got a great reaction. Overall I thought it was their best setlist ever, mixing the 'hits' with songs that KISS fans have not heard in a while. The stage was covered with mini video screens for special effects with one big screen in the center.
This is a tour that should not be missed.
