Static-X Live in Hollywood

Static-X are out on tour knocking them dead, and bringing the dead back to life with heavy music that makes you move. Those who have seen them recently while they’ve been out supporting their new release, Start a War, have seen a new incarnation of this band with the expected energy and high powered sound that is Static-X. Call it a home court advantage or call it preferential treatment, but Static-X gave Los Angeles a great performance with all the key elements were in place. Their sound system was loud and clean. A devoted following (lots and lots of girls) packed the House of Blues, so therefore it wasn't a sausage fest, as a friend of mine calls a room full of dudes. When Wayne, Koichi, Tony and Nick went into “Bled for Days,” it seemed like the whole house went apeshit, with ecstatic fans singing out songs, new and old.

Wayne Static was amazing to watch as he gyrated, relentlessly working the stage. He sings and screams like a nitro-burning Pete Loeffler (Chevelle). Wayne is a brilliant musician and very much a rock and roll clown in that he doesn't take himself too seriously. He performs with a comedic intensity. His trademark hairdo kept its hard edge the whole evening. Back on board is guitarist Koichi Fukuda, who, more than has the guitar duties down in this band and many would say the band is better for it. Tripp out on that! Hey, don't Tripp out, alright? What a Tripp. Okay, enough. Mr. Eisen got canned.

There were very few still as a stone, arm-crossed deadpeckers at this show. At a Static-X show it would be nearly impossible to sit still while “The Enemy” was being shot out of the amps. The set list was a good mixture of the old and new. Wayne dedicated “Love Dump” to the ladies in the audience, and his dedication didn’t disappoint.

With a bit of computer programming and pedal work added to crushing rhythm and grooves, Static-X is dangerous and dance worthy.
