MAX FRYE
The Rainmaker Sessions

EPK Records

He’s young (18 years old!), he’s cut his proverbial teeth first playing with local band OZZMOSIS in 2017 in and around his home base of Nashville, then traveling/playing with LITTLE OZZY in February 2018 before catching the ear of TNT frontman Tony Harnell and getting the opportunity to tour/play with the American/Norwegian melodic rock legend in 2019, and even more recently performing in the VAN HALEN tribute band '84, he tends to be mistaken for the director and screenwriter of Foxcatcher every now and then if one’s Google search isn’t properly refined and filtered – specifically if it’s my Google search.

And he is known as up-and-coming singer/songwriter/guitarist MAX FRYE, whose axe-wielding duties are definitely better than my online search skills. With a good couple of years of touring under his belt before the global pandemic curbed everything, the past spring was an ideal time for the aspiring guitarist to record his debut EP titled The Rainmaker Sessions. Even with only five songs on its roster, it’s enough to forecast MAX FRYE’s profile, both musically and lyrically. Opening with the groovy .38 SPECIAL “Caught Up In You”-sounding vibes of the debut single “Vertigo” (video on KNAC.COM HERE), MAX FRYE has already well established himself as both a versatile vocalist and songwriter alongside his impressive rhythm and lead guitar playing throughout. With lyrics such as “I don’t want the world to get too much bigger/There’s a few things we have to consider”, it’s both a humbling and well-versed precursor to his approach to his music as someone who strives to opt for quality over quantity in their work. Further solidifying his lyrical philosophic skills would be in his follow-up songs such as the ALICE IN CHAINS-inspired “Sage”, and the redemption blues-sounding “Everything Lies” and “Beauty In Pain”. Closing out the EP is a crunchy cover of legendary British 70’s glamsters T. REX’s “20th Century Boy”, which emits just as much sultry swagger and attitude in its own incarnation.

Overall, a hot plate of stormy-sounding offerings from an incendiary talent just shy of a year or two of legal drinking.
