In the wake of Reroute To Remain and Soundtrack To Your Escape, In Flames had their work cut out for them in order to convince diehard fans that their best days could be yet to come. They have taken the first step on this road with the release of Come Clarity (US release date Feb. 7, 2006 on Ferret Music), which returns the band to their more thrashy roots. While its not another Jester Race or Whoracle it’s definitely a start in the right direction.

The new release reeks with darker vocals, heavier riffs and a cleaner drum assault. Songs such as Scream, Crawl Through Knives and Versus Terminus provide excellent twin guitar shredding and slight old school feelings. The song Dead End stands out with guest vocalist Lisa Miskovsky (its been awhile since In Flames shared the mic with a female singer). Almost Queensryche-esqe until the unrelenting guitar bombardment of Björn Gelotte and Jesper Strömblad kick in, followed by a thunderous tempo by drummer Daniel Svensson. Anders Fridén provides the vocals that has lead In Flames since the early days, and they stand out.

The title track shows their mature progression, with all the distinctive traits they are known for. Classic intro with clear guitars, progressing to bass/drums, melodic overlays of another clear guitar, diving into the harsher bridge and chorus. The closing Your Bedtime Story Is Scaring Everyone is an experimental piece of music, to say the least. It's the longest track (over five minutes), and includes radio static and piano. Fridén doesn’t chime in until the final 90 seconds. Interesting way to end the disc.

Everything flows perfectly throughout this disc; the bass soldering with the drums, the guitars meshing in complete harmony, and the vocals burning into the songs. This will definitely be a highly anticipated release for 2006.
