Every Time I Die (There seems to be fewer and fewer people at my funeral.)

Do you ever get them confused...the bands that have three or more words in their name, and in those names there are choice metal words like die, live, life, or death? If it dies today, it's just a life once lost, and as I lay dying I'll choose a death by stereo.

Buffalo, New York's Every Time I Die is out on the road promoting their newest release .Gutter Phenomenon. It is a rather peculiar band, speaking from a musical standpoint. The lyrics are randomly wild and hard to capture, as is the avante-garde approach in which these gritty metal men perform. ETID's sound is like a mix of Rage Against the Machine, Dangerous Toys, Walls of Jericho and Lamb of God, infused with a pinch of punk and a splash of funk.

Seeing them play before Bleeding Through was pretty cool -not spectacular -but it might be that the music ETID plays falls into an acquired taste category, or at least I think. There are so many changes and mind-bending breakdowns in their songs, which could cause an unconditioned mind to enter psychosis, yet they were amusing and really fun to watch up there, pumping huge sound through the house. These dudes know how to rock a joint, and did so to a sold-out Avalon crowd with radical abandon, not giving a fuck about looking pretty or being clever. I witnessed some craziness and camaraderie being exchanged between the band and the audience, and that always makes for a good time.
