2024 marks the 45th Anniversary of the fabled New York Heavy Metal act THE RODS. The power trio's debut album Rock Hard was released independently in 1980. After signing with Arista Records, the album was reissued as The Rods.

For the next four decades and ten albums, their line-up remained consistent; ex-ELF guitarist (and cousin of Ronnie James Dio) David "Rock" Feinstein, ex-KELAKOS drummer Carl Canedy, and bassist Garry Bordonaro.

Bordonaro retired from THE RODS shortly after the release of their highly regarded 2019 release Brotherhood of Metal. In tandem with THE RODS 45th anniversary, the band is set to release their latest studio album Rattle The Cage on January 19, 2024. It will be their first album featuring current bassist Freddy Villano.

I had the chance to catch up with vocalist David "Rock" Feinstein and drummer Carl Canedy ahead of the album's release. Together we discuss Rattle The Cage, the retirement of bassist Garry Bordonaro, working with their new bassist Freddy Villano, the stories behind the singles, their legendary album covers, touring Australia for the first time, their 45th anniversary tour plans, whether this milestone marks the end of the road, memories of their debut 1980 album Rock Hard/The Rods, why their 1st label Arista wasn't a good fit, their other music projects, and much, much more.
