Ian Gillan Bassist, Rodney Appleby Recuperating From Gunshot to the Face By Newsferatu, Writer Wednesday, December 6, 2006 @ 9:17 AM
Rodney Appleby, bassist for Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan, was shot in the jaw on Saturday, November 25 while he visited a neighbor in Buffalo, NY. Buffalo police reports that Appelby, 49, was shot once at close range with a .22 caliber pistol around 2:30 p.m. by an unidentified man. Officers Cedric Littlejohn and Daryl Williams charged the suspect with attempted murder, criminal use of a weapon and criminal possession of a weapon. Following the assault, Appleby was checked into the Erie County Medical Center and is now in stable condition.
“When I heard about Rodney’s assault my heart stopped,” said Michael Lee Jackson, Ian Gillan’s band manager and guitarist. “Rodney has been my musical partner for close to ten years. He’s a delightful soul, a great friend and one of the most talented people I’ve ever known. Ian, the rest of the band and I, wish him a speedy recovery.”
Appleby is currently recovering in his home in Buffalo and wishes to let his fans know how thankful he is for their well-wishes. Doctors expect him to fully recover in time for the Ian Gillan tour of Australia, which kicks off in January 2007.
