Overkill Frontman Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth Update From the Road By Newsferatu, Writer Friday, January 26, 2007 @ 10:19 AM
As heritage thrashers Overkill embark on an East Coast Tour, performing to packed houses with Metal church and Meliah Rage joining them on the bill, front man Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth took time out to update the KNAC.COM audience on the tour, and Ellswoth's new band the Cursed.
Ellsworth says the recent Hollywood Overkill gig was a sort of triumphant return. "The doors opened up again to Overkill on the West Coast, due to the Gigantour. Playing The Whiskey was a blast. Shadows Fall drummer Jason Bittner joined us on "Elimination". The show was sold out. It was 90 percent male audience. This is only a day ten tour. (These are) make-up days that we rescheduled due to the fact that we were on The Gigantour. We wanted to make good for those dates."
Ellswoth says the band has had a singular vision over the years. "Overkill is what it is. The fans have stuck by us for over twenty years. During that time we have made some new fans along the way. Everyday is different when you are on tour. For every small club that you play there is always a silver lining when we perform in a bigger venue."
The Overkill frontman is busy trying to get out a new release, but not from Overkill. His new band, The Cursed has the debut "Room Full Of Sinners" on the way. "If everything goes, as planned we are looking for an April release. We are just taking into consideration dfferent European Record deals now."
He offers this reassuring message to Kill fans, "Overkill takes center stage. It always has and always will. It is very exciting to see all the publicity and interest regarding The Cursed. When we were recording "Room Full Of Sinners", I wanted to get away from the toneality of voice that I am known for. I used different reverbs on every tune. No song sounds alike. I have some Dio, early Black Sabbath vocal sounds on one track. Mike Cristi does a great job with his catchy drum beats. Guitarist Dan Lorenzo is a master guitar shredder. The Cursed has a gritty, dirty vibe to its sound. Also I do this track that has a kind of Sinatra feel to it, which features a heavy jazzy bass beat, and my low vocals.
Perhaps the biggest difference between The cursed and Overkill is the subject matter. Elssworth says, "During my career in Overkill, I have never written a song about a woman before. The Cursed, "Room Full Of Sinners" has eleven songs that are written about women. It is good music to play on a first date, and open up a bottle of wine and take it from there."
Room Full of Sinners is due to be released early this year on Screaming Ferret Wreckords.
Overkill is winding down this leg of a tour. the remaining dates are as follows:
