  • According to Deep Purple fan-site Thehighwaystar.com, Steve Hoare has started a petition to nominate Ian Gillan for the rank of the Member of the Order of British Empire. British citizens and residents can sign petition online at the Prime Minister’s website. Deadline is March 4, 2008. MBE rank does not entail knighthood, but is nevertheless a very prestigious award.

  • Relix, the magazine for music, announced the addition of Brian May, lead guitarist and vocalist for Queen, to its Wear Your Music campaign. This secures a list of guitar legends that have come together to create an outlet for die-hard music fans to wear their idol's strings while benefiting charities all at once. Legends include Brian May, Carlos Santana, Pete Townshend, Les Paul, Dickey Betts, Buddy Guy, Keith Richards, Peter Frampton and Bob Weir. The artists' donated guitar strings are turned into bracelets and sold to benefit more than 20 charities either chosen by the artist or previously chosen by the campaign. The bracelets are available at relixband.com.

Created by noted designer Hannah Garrison of Azu Studio and Relix President/Publisher Steve Bernstein, the Relix Band lets fans wear the strings of icons - the strings that at one time produced their favorite sounds, around their wrists. In addition to the legends, future icons are on the bill as well including John Mayer, Ben Lee, and Zakk Wylde.

  • Bon Jovi performed their new single, '(You Want To) Make A Memory' live on American Idol. Frontman Jon Bon Jovi told host Ryan Seacrest that Bon Jovi's world tour would kick off in January (2008) and until then, the band would play "selected dates" this year including a ten night run in New Jersey. The new Bon Jovi album, Lost Highway, hits stores June 19th.

Dimmu Borgir guitarist Silenoz checks in from Chicago on the band's current tour with Unearth, Devildriver, and Kataklysm to comment on this momentous achievement for Norwegian black metal: "It seems like people haven't forgotten about us after all, so thank you! Hope to see you all on tour... and carry on buying the new record!"

  • According to LiveDaily, Alice Cooper will be presenting an award to Chris Cornell (ex-Soundgarden, ex-Audioslave) on May 11th at the third annual Musicares Map Fund Benefit Concert in Hollywood, CA. It's the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for Cornell's "dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund and his devotion to helping other addicts with the recovery process." The MusiCares MAP fund "provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation."

  • Slayer and Marilyn Manson recently announced that they will co-headline a North American major-market summer tour, set to kick off July 25th on the East Coast. Plans are for the tour to play some 25 cities and wrap up early September on the West Coast.

    • 8/5 - PNC Band Arts Center - Holmdel, NJ
    • 8/31 - Reliant Arena - Houston, TX
A full, confirmed schedule will be announced shortly.

  • Helix have inked a new deal with Sanctuary Records. As previously reported, Helix' new CD, which will be released in July/August, will be called The Power Of Rock n’ Roll. It will be a combination of their recent Get Up! EP plus four brand new tracks: 'Fill Your Head With Rock', 'Nickels & Dimes', 'Livin’ Life Large' and 'Eat My Dust'. As well as taking on the new CD, Sanctuary is also licensing seven CDs in their back catalogue: Breaking Loose, White Lace & Black Leather, B-Sides, Half-alive, Back for Another Taste, Rockin’ In My Outer Space, and Live! In Buffalo.
