From Business Wire:
Legendary rock band Motley Crue today filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court charging that one of its managers, Carl Stubner, who also represents the band’s drummer Tommy Lee, orchestrated a campaign of “self dealing” to “divert revenue” from the band; the suit states that the Defendants “promoted Lee’s solo activities to the detriment of the band, and at the same time, mismanaged Lee’s career so as to harm the Mötley Crüe brand and Lee’s reputation as a musician and band member.”
Named as defendants in addition to Stubner are three companies he’s associated with: Carl Stubner Productions, Inc., Sanctuary Group, Inc. and Sanctuary Artist Management, Inc. Neither Tommy Lee nor the band’s other managers, Allen Kovac/Tenth Street Entertainment and Bert Stein, are defendants.
The lawsuit states: “Stubner’s motivation was greed. He has brazenly said as much. Stubner stated that he received significantly higher commissions on Lee’s solo projects because he did not have to share his take with the other managers. He claimed that it was a ‘no brainer’ to promote Lee’s projects over those of Mötley Crüe. Because favoring Lee’s personal interests to the band’s was such a ‘no brainer,’ Stubner stated that he would only make Lee available for tour dates if the band and the other two managers agreed to increase his commission quotient. Stubner also demanded 100 tickets per show for free which he then resold at ‘scalper’ prices.”
The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages of more than $20 million for lost earnings, lost profits and diminished brand and goodwill value resulting from the Defendants’ actions. The lawsuit also requests punitive damages because, as claimed in the lawsuit, the defendants’ “despicable” actions were undertaken “fraudulently, maliciously and oppressively.”
The band’s attorney is Skip Miller of Miller Barondess LLP, Los Angeles.

JimmyRamone - 6/23/2007 6:23:50 PM FROM YAHOO MUSIC NEWS = OK, so one of the big news stories this week is that metal vets Motley Crue are suing their manager, Carl Stubner, for $20 million, on the grounds that that he gave them bad advice. Hmmmm, let's see. Was it Carl that suggested that Vince Neil serve as Grand Marshal at the World's Largest Chicken Dance event at the 29th Annual Oktoberfest in Cincinnati? Or undergo an Extreme Makeover-like transformation on the VH1 reality show Remaking (only to regain all his excess weight and wrinkles in record time)? Or market his own budget sex tape in a desperate attempt to steal Tommy Lee's thunder? Was it Carl who advised other Crue members to launch gawd-awful side-projects like Methods Of Mayhem and Brides Of Destruction? Was it Carl's idea for the Crue to re-record an industrial remix titled "Shout At The Devil '97," hire a since-forgotten substitute singer named John Corabi, or open a massively unsuccessful Melrose Avenue memorabilia boutique called S'Crued? If the answer to any of the above is "yes," then sure, Motley Crue have a pretty airtight case. But this particular lawsuit has to do with drummer Tommy Lee's two reality shows, Tommy Lee Goes To College and Rock Star: Supernova, which the Crue guys claim had "inane overtones" that made Tommy look "incoherent, lazy, and incompetent." Oh, like Exhibit A, Motley Crue's tell-all book The Dirt (or Exhibit B, Tommy's own Tommyland memoir, featuring entire chapters told from the point of view of, um, Tommy's most famous body part) didn't do perfectly a good job of that already. Sheesh. We suggest Tommy star in a new show called Tommy Lee Goes To Law School, because after he does a little research he might realize the Crue has about as much chance of winning this case as Rock Star Supernova do of making a second album...

maqor - 6/21/2007 5:56:24 AM goin-bind, oh did I insult your America the great concept? I didn't me to pea brain. But just so you know your country got booted years ago as being the fore front to all metal. You guys have been left behind. But you don't have to denigrate Europe by claiming they don't have new crops. I bought the new album from Dragonforce and not only are there new chops, but more than one guitaris is shredding on there. They are definitely sharing lead duties like Maiden, Thin Lizzy, etc. Also, like Purp, they trade off on guitar vs. keyboards type solos as well. All of this done at warp speeds Eddie only dreams of. Sorry dude, but I'm not a beginner, I haven't made the mistake of putting speed above all else in playing, I'm simply pointing out that because noone has ever played like these guys before, they will be popular with the kids precisely partly because they know you'll never get it, ancient one. How much you want to bet if Van Halen does reunite in full even, they will not invite Dragonforce as their opening act because Dragonforce would blow Van Halen right out of the water, BTW, just like Metallica blew Van Halen out of the water at the Monsters of Rock festival here in L.A. at the Colliseum in 88. That was when everyone knew speed metal was basically taking over from the old guard of heavy metal. Well this is happening right as I write this all over the world all over with Dragonforce and Children of Bodom at the helm.
