I have had the privilege of seeing the Prince of Darkness 3 times: '96,
Ozzfest 2000 in Vancouver and last Tuesday, March 5, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Opening were Project Wise, The Tea Party and then Ozzy, who was awesome.
Showing his age, but not his lack on energy, he kicked everyone's ass at that concert! Opening with the “Ultimate Sin,” the sound was a little rough at the beginning, but they got a handle on it. Ozzy went through “War Pigs,” “Mr. Crowley,” “No More Tears,” “Bark at the Moon,” “I Don't Want To Change The World,” “Iron Man,” of course, and too many others to list. He was amazing to the crowd, and I don't think I've yelled that much before. Ozzy's voice was great and there was no way anyone should have walked out of there disappointed -- if they did they should get their ass kicked!
Now seeing as this was my third time… I was blown away by Zakk Wylde -- he stole the show for me. Fuck, he kicks ass! I was so pumped. The stage was pretty plain and we happened to sitting off the side of the stage, the side he stuck to. I can't even describe his 10-minute solo in words. Watching him play blew me and my friends away. He played the Star-spangled Banner, and even as Canadians, we felt the pride of our Southern neighbors.
If you ever interview him for 1919 Eternal, give a huge thank you from Canada, as I don't think we will get to see him for a while. I live in Red Deer, a city with a population of about 64,000. Nothing comes to this town, so being able to drive an hour and a half to see him in concert was probably one of the best moments in my concert history.
