Fatal Smile’s journey with Doro concluded with a bang on Friday, April 18, 2008, at The Muse in Nashville, Tennessee. In the heart of America’s country music capital, metal fans, some loyal Doro fans traveling from as far away as Germany, gathered at the small venue, an interesting structure, painted glistening black.

Following two opening bands, the crowd was charged for Sweden’s Fatal Smile to rock the stage. After some tuning and equipment adjustments, the singer, Blade, ignited the audience with the now familiar, “Freak Out!” The place exploded with anticipation for “Neo Natural Freaks,” the title song from the previous CD. Other crowd pleasers included the fist-pumping, sing-a-long tune, “Common People” (also from the ‘Neo Natural’ CD), “Out of My Head” (off the new CD, ‘World Domination’), and the audience participation beckoning, “Hip Mother-Fucker.”

Another set favorite from the ‘World Domination’ CD, “Run for Your Life,” is the saga of a party gone awry, which manages to be poignant and rocking at the same time. The set closer, “Stranger,” was a high-energy finale, but the crowd went wild over the current single, “S.O.B.” With its catchy riffs, self-deprecating autobiographical verses, and fist-pumping chant-a-long chorus, this absolutely addictive song is destined to be one of every fan’s favorites.

A small venue, strange stage set-up, and technical difficulties aside, the show was hot, electric, and it rocked. The boys gave their all: Blade kept the crowd pumped and singing with fists in the air, while wielding his blade-bottomed mike stand. Y smoked with catchy riffs and fiery solos. Alx rumbled through intricate rollicking bass lines, and Zteff held everything together with precise timing.

The crowd was primed and ready for Doro, but the boys planned an impromptu encore. Since this was the final show of the tour, Fatal Smile surprised Doro and her band with a champagne shower during the anthem, “All We Are.” The guys even joined in on vocals, with Doro holding the mike for bassist, Alx, to sing the chorus, much to the crowd’s delight. It was a wonderful treat and a fitting end for the tour.

Although it’s sad to see the guys heading back to Sweden, I spoke with many people at the show who had come specifically to see Fatal Smile, some traveling from great distances. This tour may be over, but Fatal Smile’s world domination has just begun.
