Rain - lots of it, delayed the bigger acts on Friday, it was to be Head East with headliners Great White. I arrived late, well past the 7:30 Head East start time; waited out the rain with Appleton, WI-based Copperbox showing true grit running their gear through the rain into the beer tent and entertaining the crowd until the stage was dry well past 8:30. I was watching them sound check across the way and figured they were skipping Head East as it was getting late.

Nope, they announced Head East. Never was a big fan but did know a few of their songs and they did put on a pretty good show. They kept saying sorry for the short set. It didn't seem very short, I didn't count the songs but they played for at least a hour maybe longer and did 3-4 cover tunes.

GW came out and immediately said we apologize for the weather and short set but there is a curfew at 11, so we'll play what ever Head East left us.

They sounded a bit pissed, not sure where the call was but the dry time left until 11 should've been split evenly. Anyway, here's the set list:

  • Call it rock and roll
  • On your Knees (extended version)
  • Rock Me
  • Once Bitten/Twice Shy
Yup…that was it. 4 quick songs and off the stage they went, just past 11pm. That sucked, the part that sucked the worst is this that short set was by far the best the band has sounded in the last 10-12 years of their shows I've gone to. Jack looked and sounded healthier, Mark was right on, Michael and Sean didn't skip a beat and Audie was a friggin mad man back there ("Johnny Rambo" as Jack put it ). It was awesome to hear the guys back as I best remember them live.

Saturday I had enough time to squeeze in Rhino Bucket's show. I'd only known them from a few online videos I caught the week prior but that was one heck of a fun show they did for the few that did show up. Good high energy songs, glad I made the trip back to check them out.

I'm not sure what happened, be it weather, not enough advertising or what but there was at most 125 people there Friday, and maybe 40 on Saturday when I came back to catch Rhino Bucket. Very sad as it they had one heck of a layout and plenty of room with a good list of acts. Ticket prices were maybe a tad high but not obnoxiously so.

As they used to say on KNAC "Keep it hard!"
