A Day In Their Paws

Come and experience a unique and extraordinary event at The Brittany Foundation Animal Sanctuary

Saturday, November 7 thru Sunday, November 8

Brittany Foundation volunteers are going on "lock-down" in the kennels with some of our adoptable dogs for a 24-hour period. Volunteers will live for one day how these dogs live every day. Freedom for breaks, food, etc., can only be taken when time has been sponsored / purchased for that individual. Donations can be made via paypal or with a check. Freedom for these volunteers can also be purchased at our Open House on Saturday, November 7 from 11 am to 5 pm. The sponsorship rate is $1 per minute so every one of those dollars count! More details to follow. If you are interested in participating or just enjoying the day, e-mail us! Sanctuary tours, snacks, raffles, silent auction, dog training demos, are all part of the day.

imasmf - 10/25/2009 7:52:45 AM
Unfricken believable! Dio is my god and even though I'm in Virginia I just happen to be in L.A. this day! I just need to find a way from the sunset strip to the event. I will be there!!

If I lived out there I would be going. Ronnie James Dio is one of the kindest people in the rock business to his fans. I don't know of many musicians that greet their fans after concerts the way he has over the years. This is how he gives back to his fans. Also his wife has something to do with the Children of The Night Organization. I think this is so nice of him and his wife. We need more people like this in the world.

"We're Stars" was a cool tune. I still pull the song out every now and than. You can youtube it and find some videos about the making of and shit. You can find a video of Dio doing the song in concert.

The_Space_Lord - 10/24/2009 1:08:57 AM
Ted Nugent even lent one of his solos on "Stars". Odd considering he's always distanced himself from the heavy metal aesthetic. Or at least tried to anyway. Awesome solo on the song though.

stars wasnt great to listen to but the video was cool watching all of the superstars do their parts (Meniketti-Tate-Halford-Dio on vocals)(Yngwie-Vivi Campbell on guitar)

reddog - 10/23/2009 3:14:55 PM
Wasn't "Hear-n-Aid" more Dio's bass players deal??? From what I remember... it's was something that Jimmy Bain, who was Dio's bass player at the time, got going.

DianaDeVille - 10/23/2009 10:39:50 AM
To get us back on track, this event is bringing attention to the plight of shelter dogs, who live their lives in virtual prison cells. The volunteers (including Wendy & Marchele) are spending time in the cages with the dogs for this reason. They can only get out by getting donations, and Ronnie is on hand to help out in this respect. You can go on their website (www.brittanyfoundation.com) and donate as well if you cannot be there in person.

Cakeboat, Dio was alread on a downswing with "Sacred Heart" which didn't sell even close to the prior two albums. And it is obvious why - the songs are not anywhere near as good as the first two albums, and many drenched with keyboards. And, really, "Rock and Roll Children?" Then "Hear-N-Aid," which no doubt wasn't a career booster, but I think "Sacred Heart" and then losing Vivian Campbell was more detrimental to Dio's career than "We're Stars," which was basically a poorly rewritten "Rainbow in the Dark." And in 1987 it was all Bon Jovi, Poison, and Def Leppard and those types of acts. Ronnie ain't exactly pretty-boy material.

This is sooo cool!!! I wish more rockers would do this. I'm working on an event for animals that will help animals as well. We did one in 2008, check it out. www.myspace.com/rockthedogevent If any bands are reading, we'd love to hear from you if your interested in performing.

Cakeboat - 10/22/2009 7:00:07 PM
hear n aid sucked balls and nearly killed his career? Think about it, holy diver, last in line, sacred heart, then hear n aid and then dropoff, as sacred heart is the last to even go gold. It was a backlash over that horrific song with those atrocious guitar solos (what a wonderful idea) that waste what seems like hours of people lives. Mind you, it's not that it's easy to take a guy like this seriously, but after that, all bets were off.

ggallen - 10/22/2009 11:13:05 AM
Dios mio...es Dio.

Glam_Chowder - 10/22/2009 8:11:39 AM
I think the basic idea of feeding starving children in Africa from rich, party-animal, egomaniac rock stars all glammed-out arriving to the studio in limousines just didn't fly, even if the intent was honest. Plus the tune was super-weak, even given some of the great vocal and guitar performances. But I found the VHS offering of all the behind the scenes stuff and extra guitar rippin' very entertaining.
