George Lynch deserves to be on a short list of amazing, innovative guitar players that emerged from LA over the last 30 years. I put him in the same tier of greats, such as EVH and Randy Rhoads. It was Don Dokken that wrote those cheesy lyrics, but Lynch was the guy that made that band popular.

Dokken, at the height of their powers were the thrid act on the VH Monster of Rock tour in 1988 and played to crowds of 80k to 100k So,it was a real bummer to see Lynch Mob sat. night playing to a crowd of about 100 or so people in the LA suburbia of agoura. George who's now the only original member, had Marc Torien [formely of the Bulletboys] fronting the band which also included James Lomenzo [DLR, Megadeth, White Lion] on bass.

In short, it was really an awful show. The sound was loud and distorted. The acousitics of the Canyon Club and the lack of any noticable roadies to do a proper sound check were possibly to blame. Torien was the highlight of a mostly dissapointing set. His charisma and goofy stage antics were amusing in a clownish, early DLR/Axl Rose rip-off sort of way. Unfortunatley, he couldn't sing the lyrics without reading them from the stage monitor. Lynch never stuck to the script. Every song ended with him doing some long, overlyextended noodling that made the show seem more like a rehersel . The crowd also seemed to lose interest after 30 minutes or so. Some even went back to shooting pool at the tables near the rear of the club.

As a huge fan of George Lynch, and someone who's followed his numerous post Dokken projects. I really hope that 2011 brings together a full scale Dokken reunion. I never thought a Dokken reunion would be a career saver for someone of George's talents. But at this point ,I think it's his only hope of some sort of redemption. George is not getting any younger, and the crowds are sure getting smaller.....
