Review by Justin Ryan, Dublin, Ireland.

In promotion of his latest studio release, Apocalyptic Love, Slash's 2013 European Tour arrived in Dublin on Sunday, 2nd March for the first of two sold out shows at the Olympia Theatre. This venue is the only major venue in Dublin that Slash hadn't played in the last twenty years, having previously played Slane Castle(north of Dublin), Vicar Street, The Ambassador(twice), The Point(now called the 02 Arena, Dublin) and the Oxegen Festival at Punchestown Racecouse(south of Dublin). Two shows this time around was a big plus for fans as many had been unable to obtain tickets for his sold out, one night only appearance at Vicar Street in July, 2010.

According the local and national newspapers on the Monday morning, Slash had delivered a memorable show the evening before. That evenings events included Slash being introduced onto stage by his buddy Charlie Sheen, who commented that from what he could see, the crowd were, "winning!". At approximately 8:55pm on the Monday night, the venue lights were dimmed and Slash strode nonchanantly on stage. Trademark top hat, Les Paul and customised Marshall amps all ready, he was quickly joined by Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. A two hour and twenty minute set of career spanning tunes were delivered flawlessly, the compact venue allowing those fans on the ground floor standing section to get brilliant close up views of the maestro's fret work. Noteworthingly, his non-GnR material was greeted with cheers as loud as those accompanying the intros of the GnR tunes that were played on the night. Not only is the strength of his post GnR material an indication of his refusal to become a touring nostalgia act, the intensity of his playing on stage is a constant reminder to any pretenders to the throne that the master is alive and well. The fifteen minute guitar solo delivered during "Night Train" could easily be titled "Hey You, Think You Can Play Guitar?" given its jaw dropping intricicy and speed.

At 11:05pm, the concert concluded with "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Paradise City" which were the final two of seven GUNS N ROSES classics played on the night(the others being "Civil War", "Sweet Child O' Mine", "Youre Crazy", "Night Train", "Rocket Queen").

Before these two songs, Slash briefly addressed the crowd to say, "What a great place to conclude our European tour. As always Dublin, you've been awesome. We'll see you again next year". Amen to that.
