1994 was not the best year to be a Thrash Metal band. The entire world had embraced the Seattle Grunge scene. Some bands folded, others tried to adapt, but SODOM said “fuck you” to the entire system and continued to do things their way. SODOM albums up to this point had always been punishing and angry, but ‘Get What You Deserve’ took that fury to another level by adding more Punk Rock angst.

The Deluxe Box Set of ‘Get What You Deserve’ is a 5 LP / 1 DVD colored vinyl collection. The first LP contains a remastered version of the original album. Sonically this version is loud and more detailed. It sounds like it could have been recorded this year.

Remember when I said it was an angry album? Vocalist Tom Angelripper and his crew are plotting revenge on “Get What You Deserve”, calling out someone in the industry for being a fat slob on “Jabba The Hut”, welcoming death up others on “Delight in Slaying”, and calling out warmongers on “Unbury The Hatchet.” That’s just side one!

Side two is generally more of the same with just different targets. “Tribute to Moby Dick” is an unexpected instrumental section toward the end of the album. “Silence is Consent” shows that SODOM does indeed have a heart, as they call out whale exploitation. Songs like “Eat Me”, “Sodomized” and “Angel Dust” are easy to figure out. Sometimes I think tracks like these were written for shock value in a time when people were easily shocked.

The second LP is a different mix of the album, specifically called the Blitzkrieg Remix. This was done by guitarist Andy Brings, who is responsible for all the extra goodies in this collection. This mix is the polar opposite of the 2026 remaster. The Blitzkrieg Remix sounds raw, like you’re hearing what it sounded like in the studio. There are even drumstick click counts to most of the songs. If I had to pick between the two mixes, it’s Blitzkrieg all the way.

LP 3 contains SODOM’s ‘Aber bitte mit Sahne’ EP that was released a year before ‘Get What You Deserve’. The EP received the same 2026 remaster treatment on side A, and another raw mix on side B. This time it’s called the Schweinskopf Remix. I was taken aback by SODOM’s cover of Udo Jurgens’ “Aber bitte mit Sahne.” It seems so out of character for the band singing in falsetto, but I can’t get the damn thing out of my head.

LP 4 & LP 5 is ‘Live In Frischborn, Germany 1993’. This recording appears to be in its original form. It’s rough around the edges. Andy Brings might have touched some stuff up here and there, but it’s more of a bootleg style recording than off the boards. SODOM’s performance is intense, led by thunderous drums and ravenous riffage. Tom Angelripper’s guttural vocals are blood-thirsty and unrelenting.

The DVD contains two more live shows. ‘Live at Metal Blast, Netherlands 1993’ is a single camera show that looks like it was pulled from a VHS. The sound is slightly better than the live LP show. It was cool to relive a show from 1993. The stage and lighting was small, there were cheesy smoke bombs and flash pot sparklers, and people banging their heads without worry. I wonder how their necks feel today?

Fans prop themselves up on the stage a little bit in the beginning, then a little more, then a little more, until one whole row is sitting on the front of the stage. From there, random people run up to the band to bang their heads, scream, or even grab a microphone to sing along. Wild stuff.

‘Live In Traunreut, Germany 1993’ is a little more cleaned up visually. The set is more or less the same as in the Netherlands. This time the camera is from a backstage point of view. At times the camera man heads out to the pit to get some close up and front of the stage shots. This show is just as impassioned as the prior shows. The sound quality matches the prior DVD show.

At the end of the DVD is a one hour interview with the band, played along to raw video footage from their “Silence Is Consent” music video. The interview is in German with English subtitles. I think the interview is from 1993 or 1994 after the video was made. SODOM discusses the song and breaks down the video for almost an hour. The Deluxe Box Set includes a double sided poster with artwork from ‘Get What You Deserve’. More power to you if you are still hanging up posters.

The ‘Get What You Deserve’ Deluxe Box Set is a 1993/1994 time capsule of treasures from one of Germany’s most respected Thrash Metal bands. It’s not for everyone. Casual or new fans may not appreciate the live material due to its quality, but longtime fans and die hands will eat that stuff up.
