Album Review: DEATH DEALER ‘Reign of Steel’

Album Review: DEATH DEALER ‘Reign of Steel’

2026 Massacre Records

The supergroup Death Dealer unleashed its fourth full-length album, (fifth release overall) the metal monster named ‘Reign of Steel,’ January 23rd through Massacre Records. The album had been awaiting release for a few years, and now the time is right for this behemoth to go out into the world and chop some heads off! The band lineup remains: Sean Peck (vocals), Stu Marshall (guitar), Ross The Boss (guitar), Mike LePond (bass), Steve Bolognese (drums).

The gauntlet is thrown down right from the first track with the Avengers-themed “Assemble,” a full-tilt power metal assault that features plenty of solos, double bass drums and face-melting screams. What a great opening track! “Devil’s Triangle” is a gripping historical tale about the five bombers that disappeared over the Bermuda Triangle on December 5, 1945. This engrossing song has all the riffs, solos and emotional heft needed to convey this tragedy. “Riding On The Wings” continues the air power theme, but this time takes the listener on board a cold war-era dogfight a la ‘Top Gun’. This is one of the catchiest tracks on the album, and is classic heavy metal. “Bloodbath” continues the military theme and takes inspiration from the account Quint gives in the movie Jaws about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. The blast beats and riffs take the tune into extreme metal territory, and the screams from Sean Peck are over the top!

The band slows things down for a moment on “Raging Wild and Free,” a ballad of sorts, which is all about living and loving freedom. “Blast The Highway” is a fuel-injected ode to driving fast and blazing down the open road, a track which will surely get the adrenaline pumping through your veins (Check out the video HERE). “Compelled” is great song that takes a chilling look through the eyes of a serial killer. “Dragon of Algorath” is a speed metal tale full of action and adventure. It also contains one of the longest screams ever recorded! Next up is the mid-tempo “Sleeping Prophet,” an intriguing story about clairvoyant Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) who was able to diagnose diseases and predict events while asleep. The album closes with the speed metal blast of “Reign of The Night,” a track loosely based on the action horror film ‘Priest’, set in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian future about a centuries-long war between humans and vampires. It’s a great subject for a song, and a killer ending to this album!

‘Reign of Steel’ contains ten instantly classic tracks, embracing the best traits of classic heavy metal (think Judas Priest on steroids), thrash, and of course power metal. I have followed the band’s entire career, and I find this album to be their most concise and tenacious. This may be their finest moment on record. I love this album! Sean Peck has really made a statement here with his vocals. Stu Marshall and Ross The Boss have really outdone themselves this time. Their riffs and solos are truly inspired. Mike LePond is a legend and brings everything together with his bass playing. Steve Bolognese’s drumming is once again the best in this genre. And check out that killer album artwork by Dusan Markovic! This album is the entire package, and one you’re going to want the physical copy of, because Massacre Records is releasing the album as a Mediabook and colored vinyl. If you must, a digital download is also available. ‘Reign of Steel’ is out now. Be sure to pick up your copy today!
