Twenty years after the release of the industrial metal landmark album Demanufacture, FEAR FACTORY is out on the road, touring in support of their new album, Genexus. The middle-school-aged version of myself was just giddy when I caught wind that there was a date in Cleveland and I was lucky enough to snag an appointment with vocalist Burton C. Bell to discuss the tour and the brand new record. There are three things that FEAR FACTORY are best known for – machine-gun drums, the percussive guitars of Dino Cazares and the Burton C. Bell patented singing range from guttural screams to haunting clean vocals. Since the early 90’s, FEAR FACTORY has been painting a picture for us; a scene where mankind is at war with the machine; something Burton attributes to his anti-establishment, punk-rock background. Genexus is no different as this record represents the next step in the human evolutionary path – the genexus generation. Hours before they took the Agora stage by storm, I climbed aboard the FEAR FACTORY tour bus for my little chat with Burton.
