Canadian Death Metal may be an under-appreciated scene but some of the groups to come out from our neighbors from the North are some of the more unique and long-standing Death Metal groups. For 30 years KATAKLYSM has stood out as one of the Brutal and Melodic bands that have made it this far, and 14 albums deep.
Due out September 25th is another Nuclear Blast release, UNCONQUERED which promises to be another outstanding chapter in the legacy of KATAKLYSM as it includes the touch of Colin Richardson who has had an extraordinary resume, and comes out of retirement to work his magic with the Canadians newest record. As a reflection of modern times, UNCONQUERED could prove to be what Metalheads fans need right now, an influence to survive and conquer these days full of uncertainty.
I spoke with vocalist Maurizio Iacano ahead of its released and we discussed the making of the album, the perspective and importance of the D-I-Y (Do It Yourself) mentality for a band, the negatives of Pay-To Play, and much more.
