ISLANDER Releases New Song, Video For "Crazy Crazy World" By Larry Petro, News Monkey Friday, December 11, 2020 @ 1:29 PM
The melancholic new song shows the dynamic range the band has when it comes to songwriting. Often known for their combinations of different genres, “Crazy Crazy World” is a combination of Alternative, Rock, Hip-Hop among other genres. The chorus of the song calls out a message familiar to all of us in 2020 “It’s a crazy crazy world, we’re living in a crazy crazy world.”

The somber tone is further illustrated in the music video, which follows AEW wrestler Sting in his wrestling attire as he goes about his day. But even with the sad melancholy of the song, the video ends on a hopeful note as Sting purchases a sandwich for a person in need and sits with him as they eat together.
Singer Mikey Carvajal says, “"Crazy Crazy World" is a song that everyone can relate to in one way or another. I wrote the lyrics when I was struggling with depression, but it really is an anthem for the times we are all in right now. It’s not a heavy song musically, but this whole year has been heavy enough for everyone. We wanted to contrast the heaviness with something beautiful and relatable, especially considering no one can mosh or stage dive or anything that comes along with being an aggressive band right now. Since this next record is easily the heaviest album we’ve done to date, we wanted to switch it up.”
Working on the video with wrestling legend Sting was particularly inspiring for the band. Mikey explains “The visual for this song stars the wrestling legend, Sting. He is my favorite wrestler of all time, and he’s one of the coolest people I’ve ever had the honor to know or work with. In the wrestling business, when you help someone’s career, it’s known as “putting someone over.” So I really can’t thank Sting enough for putting us over. It definitely feels like ISLANDER has finally made it to main event with this track.”
The band has also prepared a limited edition ISLANDER x Sting collaborative merch line called “The Tag Team Collection”. Now almost a decade into a career built with that mission in mind, ISLANDER continues to grow a global fanbase. The band writes from a place of love and empathy channeled into raucous music that can incite mosh pits and comfort those who feel alone. It's a delicate balance between chaos and focused effort that only ISLANDER can perfect, and it's because of that combination that the group remains one of the most versatile names in entertainment today.
"If you speak about real things, they will remain relevant," says Carvajal. "We all have skin and bones and blood. We're all human beings trying to make it in this world. The most important thing is being there for people, and our music allows us to do that."
ISLANDER heads into 2021 with high hopes and a bevy of material. Four years of writing and recording has given the band their most diverse and collaborative music to date. From the rallying cries of "Freedom" to the meditative flow of "Crazy Crazy World", ISLANDER is creating a space for listeners to process the madness of today and find hope for a better tomorrow.
