The worst terror attack ever on U.S. soil claimed the lives of 2,976 Americans. At the World Trade Center, 2,605 known victims died on the ground and another 87 passengers and crew members died aboard American Airlines Flight 11. The second plane, United Airlines Flight 175, carried 60 passengers and crew members. One-hundred-and-twenty-five people died in the Pentagon, and 59 passengers and crew members aboard American Airlines Flight 77 lost their lives in that attack. There were 40 passengers and crew members aboard United Flight 93 when it was crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pa. The 19 hijackers are not included in the victim tolls.
