Reissue
Metal Method Production Inc.

Back in 1986, HAWK was one of those bands that should have been much bigger than what they became. Like so many late 80's Hard Rock/Metal bands from that time, HAWK was a band that was loaded with both talent, and a ton of potential.

I remember back at that time seeing all those ads in Circus Magazine that featured HAWK Guitarist Doug Marks advertising for his Metal Method Guitar lessons. These lessons started out on audio tapes and then as technology advanced became video guitar lessons.

With Doug Marks front and center in all those ads, I was always thinking to myself I don't know who that guy is but he looks like a Rock Star and a Rock Star on the rise he was. In the end, HAWK like so many other bands from that time fell by the wayside. It was not because the band lacked talent but rather the success of Doug Marks and his Metal Method Guitar lessons became such a huge success for Marks that it took up all of his time. As a result, HAWK eventually came to a sudden and abrupt end.

The 1986 HAWK self-titled debut album featured Doug Marks on guitars and bass, future THE CULT, GUNS N' ROSES and VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum; future MASI, FIREWOLFE and ANGELS OF BABYLON lead vocalist David Fefolt, who to my ears really fit the band with his Klaus Meine-like sound to his voice, and keyboardists Dave Toiley and Steve Ayola.

The 10 track album is what I like to call “all killer and no filler”. This album was re-released on CD by Doug in 2019. It's a real shame that more people have not heard this album or may have heard the album back in 1986 and have forgotten about it! The entire album just really rocks and I recently was asked by the publicist for Doug Marks to give the album a listen and review it for them which I was happy to do.

After listening to the entire 10 guitar driven songs, I was left with a hard rock/heavy metal experience that really rocked my world and took me back in time to 1986.

I was treated to an album of real, pure, hard rock ear candy and metal delight!

The album as a whole just really rocks and is loaded with a ton of really well written, 80's melodic hard rock and heavy metal songs. The songs range in sound from VAN HALEN to the SCORPIONS.

In the end, it is a real, solid album that highlights both the songs and the band as a whole, rather than just having Doug Marks making HAWK a band that was solely centered around him and his soloing as a Master Class Shredder.

I really love the opening song "Tell The Truth", which is just a classic, 80's rock song. Another prime choice cut on the album is "Witches Burning".
