Vocalist JOHN ELEFANTE got the gig of a lifetime when he was chosen to replace Steve Walsh in KANSAS back in 1981. While his tenure in KANSAS may have only lasted a couple of albums, Elefante continued to excel in his profession, not just in front of the mic, but behind the boards as well. John went on to form MASTEDON in 1989 with his brother Dino Elefante. The project featured many notable vocalists and musicians of the era.
Elefante has produced several albums by the popular Christian pop rock act PETRA. His efforts helped spawn multiple gold certifications and numerous music awards. John also produced noted Christian Heavy Metal bands GUARDIAN, BARREN CROSS, X-SINNER, and many others. In addition to all of those efforts, Elefante found time to release a few solo albums along the way.
His latest solo album is The Amazing Grace. I had the chance to speak with JOHN ELEFANTE shortly after the album’s release.
Highlights include:
-Discussion of new solo album The Amazing Grace
-Stories behind the singles
-Working with Deko Entertainment
-Touring with the Voices of Rock Radio
-Past & current production work
-Lyrically conveying experiences without forcing beliefs
-Today’s Christian Radio vs. his music
-Another MASTEDON album in the works?

-And much, much more
