Chilean born vocalist RONNIE ROMERO is a lightning rod of criticism that is quite frankly unwarranted. Would you turn down the opportunity to front some of the most legendary bands of your youth? Highly unlikely. Some critics saw Ritchie Blackmore’s choice of Romero to front a re-formed RAINBOW as blasphemy, without checking out what the singer brought to the table.
Critics again came out of the woodwork when Ronnie provided vocals on the last VANDERBERG album 2020, the last two SUNSTORM releases, and are still at it now that he is on tour with MICHAEL SCHENKER.
RONNIE ROMERO has shown time and time again that he is above all of that. Every time they try to knock him down, he just brushes it off and returns with something greater and more engaging. If the nay-sayers just sat back and listened to the progression and body of work by RONNIE ROMERO, rather than rush to judgment, they’d realize there is a lot of quality work being produced.
Always content with being a member of a group or a band project, Romero has been asked numerous times to “go solo”. Recently Roniie began to test the waters with the release of his first solo covers album Raised On Radio in 2022. Riding high on the positive response to that release, he’s back with the sequel Raised On Heavy Radio. I had the chance to speak with RONNIE ROMERO prior to the album’s release.
Highlights include:
-Was it always the plan to do back-to-back covers albums?
-Discussion of new album Raised On Heavy Radio
