So called "Cookie Monster" vocals have been with us for years, but have they run their course?

Fans have strong opinions on this subject on both sides of the argument. Some people say they want to be able to understand the lyrics and appreciate "singing" while others say growling out the vocals is a fitting way to depict the agression of metal.
