JACKYL frontman, Jesse James Dupree, has announced the release of a new track titled "Never Gets Old" from his upcoming studio album Breathing Fire. The song, co-written by long-time friend Brian Johnson of AC/DC, features Jesse on vocals and guitar, JACKYL guitarist Roman Glick on bass, and Jesse's son Nigel Dupree on drums.
This is not the first collaboration between Dupree and Johnson. They worked together previously on tracks from two JACKYL albums, Cut The Crap (1997) and Relentless (2002). The lead track hit YouTube with a lyric video on September 15, 2023 that pays tribute to the days when concertgoers would camp out for days to get tickets to their favorite bands. The video pays homage to 35 rock artists through Easter eggs of fonts and images. Viewers will also find a QR code they can scan for their chance to win a trip to Florida and $1,000 cash if they can identify all 35 band references in the video.
Dupree refers to "Never Gets Old" as an accidental inspiration that he woke up with one day after listening to some old AC/DC records. After realizing that the idea he had in his head was a song yet to be written, all of the pieces began to fall into place. First Nigel stopped by out of the blue for dinner, then Roman came over to jam, and finally came an unexpected phone call from Johnson. Jesse refers to this new track as a "celebration of the fundamentals of rock and roll." Dupree admits that working with Brian Johnson is an incredible honor and a big deal. The fact that these types of collaborations are unheard of outside of AC/DC is not lost on Jesse.
In my very first interview for KNAC.COM I had the opportunity to chat wth Jesse about the new single among other things. Enjoy!
