1992 saw the release of the highly regarded self-titled debut by Canadian Hard Rock act SVEN GALI. Their video for "Under The Influence" won the MuchMusic Best Metal Video Award in 1993 and SVEN GALI went on to receive two Juno Award nominations. Their self-titled album eventually achieved Gold status.
SVEN GALI decided to shift gears a bit musically on their follow up release Inwire in 1995. The album was produced by future QUEENSRYCHE guitarist Kelly Gray. That album was less flash and more grit to fit that year's soundscape. Fans weren't so keen on the shift, and SVEN GALI went on hiatus.
Their recording hiatus lasted nearly 15 years with a handful live reunions here and there. In 2020, SVEN GALI released their long-awaited third album 3. Just three years later and the Canadian five piece has returned with their fourth album Bombs And Battle Scars.
Bombs And Battle Scars was released on October 13, 2023 in Canada and is available for streaming worldwide. The album's international release is set for February 2, 2024 through Music in Motion Entertainment. Bombs And Battle Scars features new material, as well as some reworked tracks from the vault, and a killer cover of the TRIUMPH song "Spellbound".
I had the chance to catch up with SVEN GALI frontman Dave Wanless to find out more about Bombs And Battle Scars. Wanless also discusses the inspiration behind the album's title, working with producer Andy Curran (CONEY HATCH), the close-knit Canadian music scene, Gil Moore (TRIUMPH) sitting in on their music video, the band's upcoming tour plans, selling out of their self-titled debut on Record Store Day 2023, memories of recording their debut, new music already in the works, opening for DEF LEPPARD, and much, much more.
