Sunset Strip United: An Exclusive Interview With JACK RUSSELL Of RUSSELL/GUNS By George Dionne, Podcaster Friday, February 23, 2024 @ 10:07 AM
L.A. GUNS and GREAT WHITE were just two of the legendary bands to come out of the Los Angeles Sunset Strip music scene. "Never Enough", "Electric Gypsy", "Sex Action", and "The Ballad of Jayne" are just a few of the radio hits that brought L.A. GUNS to prominence on a national level in the late 80s. GREAT WHITE was also in heavy rotation with "Rock Me", "Save Your Love", "All Over Now", and "Once Bitten, Twice Shy".
Now imagine combining the best of both L.A. GUNS and GREAT WHITE into one album. That album is Medusa, released under the RUSSELL/GUNS moniker, by Frontiers Music. I know, I know, another Frontiers "supergroup"? I get just as frustrated as you about it, because some of them work and some of them don't. I'm here to tell you that RUSSELL/GUNS is a winner. Medusa is a classic Hard Rock album cut right from the Sunset Strip circa 1987.
I had the chance to speak with JACK RUSSELL about the new album shortly after its release. Russell gives insight on who made the project happen, who is responsible for the music and lyrics, his favorite tracks on the album, recording remotely for the first time, whether he and Tracii will be able to perform the material live, the current JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE touring schedule, his upcoming autobiography, the 40th anniversary of GREAT WHITE's self-titled debut, and much, much more.
