THE QUILL isn't exactly a band that most American audiences are familiar with. However, in their homeland of Sweden, THE QUILL have been one of the top purveyors of Stoner Rock for over 30 years. Vocalist Magnus Ekwall, guitarist Christian Carlsson, bassist Roger Nilssson, and drummer George Atlagic have been with the group since the release of their self-titled debut in 1995. THE QUILL has released 11 albums in their time, with the last few years being some of their most productive.
Wheel Of Illusion is the latest release by the Swedish 4 piece. It was released on March 29, 2024 through Metalville Records, The vinyl version of the album sold out quickly, forcing the band to work on a second pressing (expected soon). I had the chance to catch up with bassist Robert Nilsson prior to the album's release.
Together we discuss Wheel of Illusion, how the band prefers to write in rehearsals, the intricacies of the album cover, Nilsson's fondness for collecting vinyl, live show plans, having one of their songs chosen as the intro song for their local Swedish Hockey Team, what he credits to the band's 30 years together, what catalog album should new fans start with, how they decided on the band name, and much, much more.
