Black Label Society Bassist Recounts NAMM Tribute to Dime By Newsferatu, Writer Friday, January 26, 2007 @ 9:10 AM
Deservio attended NAMM this year and signed autographs at the Schecter, EMG, Tone Pros booths as well as playing in the Black Tooth Band tribute performance to Dimebag Darrell Abbott.
"I didn't get to play with Vinnie (Paul). He played with some other cats...Scott Ian (Anthrax), Paul Grey (Slipknot), Nick Bowcott (Grim Reaper) and Ripper Owens (Iced Earth, Beyond Fear, ex-Judas Priest) . Shadows Fall drummer Jason Bittner jammed with these guys before Vinnie came up. I played with Nikita (BLS guitarist Nick Catanese) Brian Tichy (Ball, Pride & glory) and Mike Stone (Queensryche).
The jam went off with hundreds of people crammed into the ballroom, and hundreds more struggling to get in. Deservio said he had a great time listening and playing the great tunes for his fallen hero, Dimebag. "We all did a bunch of Kiss tunes and Priest, Ozzy, and shit like that! Dime loved those bands."
As for the highlight of the night, "I would have to say seeing Vinnie playing again for sure! He sounded great!"
JD's final thoughts on Dimebag Darrell: "Dime was as real as it gets. And his groove was amazing. Dime is loved and missed and he is with us every night onstage."
As previously reported, Black Label Society has a new North American tour coming up, with confirmd dates falling into place.
