Thrashing It Up: An Exclusive Interview With Julz Ramos Of HATCHET By Wendy Jasper, Black Metal Aficionado Thursday, June 20, 2013 @ 11:18 AM
"We are really hoping that we are able to do Europe, maybe some of the festivals, and we are having such a great response to the new album," Ramos said.
The band released their first album, Awaiting Evil, in 2008 via Metal Blade Records and it garnered a huge response in the thrash community, but the band and the label later parted ways and the band suffered some line-up changes.
"After the album came out and we toured extensively on our own, we had some burnout and we had to make some changes. Right now we have a strong line up and we work really well together," he said. "We are also getting to do so much more. We are getting a lot of press, fans are coming out, people that have never seen us before will come up to us after a show and tell us how much they liked us, so the response has been amazing."
Ramos has also been compared with old school thrash pioneers and the band appeals to fans of veteran bands like METALLICA, TESTAMENT and EXODUS.
"Those are my influences. I can also remember the first time I heard METALLICA and I wanted to go into music and do that very same thing. I had such a thrash inspired background and I tried to go see as many bands as I could when I was a kid."
The new age of metal, technology and a re-emergence of metal in the U.S. has Ramos excited about the future of the band. He says that the new CD is solidly recorded and produced and after five years with HATCHET he sees great things in their future.
"I see young fans coming to shows and even the most jaded of metal fans seem to like us! We are thrilled with our new label and it shows in our performance. We are stronger, happier and tighter than we have ever been."
Songs like "After The Dark", "Fall From Grace" and the title track all reveal the bands deep immersion in their influences as well as having a fresh feel that should appeal to thrashers of all ages.
The band has shows scheduled in June and July and you can stay tuned to their Facebook page for more information. Also check out the video from CapitalChaosTV.com live in San Fransisco for a taste of what the band has to offer.
