The Carnal Tour Stops At The House Of Blues On February 20th

The time is 4pm and I am rushing out of work and on my way to the train station, during New England’s weekly snowstorm. I somehow managed to get there early enough to catch the express train which goes straight into the city. Tonight I was seeing the CARNAL tour, featuring DOOBIE, ARCHERS, and CATCH YOUR BREATH with headliner, NOTHING MORE. From the station I took a short walk to House Of Blues Boston. I quickly picked up my photo pass and had a quick chat with security. At this point in time we had about ten minutes until they started allowing us in. I waited patiently as the cold snow hit me all over. Those ten minutes felt like ages. Soon enough, the fast pass line (including me, shoutout being a citizens card holder) began to move into the warm concert space.
I am immediately met with kindness and curiosity. As I’m setting up my camera I am asked about my experience as a concert photographer. I will tell you all, it is one of the coolest jobs you can have. Five minutes before the opener goes on, I was allowed into the photo pit. Now the real adrenaline starts. I have less than 15 minutes to capture all of my visions, for each band.

Even before the show started the crowd somehow had balloons and were wasting the time by throwing them around. Everyone was eagerly waiting for the lights to dim. DOOBIE is the first artist to hit the stage. Truthfully, I had never heard of him before. I like going into shows blind, so I had zero idea what this artist is about. Everyone seemed genuinely excited to be here, as they were all fully engaged and ready to party.
DOOBIE is a solo artist from Columbus, Ohio. His music was addictive and easy to sing along to. I could pick up on the choruses and dance along. He has a deep voice that scratches a certain part of my brain. I think he was the perfect choice for an opener. His music blurs the line between metal and hip hop, which gives for an amazing heavy sound.

The next band on the lineup is ARCHERS. I was actually supposed to see them a few months ago but the plans fell through. So, this will also be my first time seeing them live. I’ve heard great things, and I’ve kept up with the band on social media. Right at 7:30pm the room went dark and the speakers boomed. The crowd went berserk as the band members slowly flooded onto the stage. Their lights were bright and blinding in all shades of blue and purple. Hands went up and screaming voices were on. The first crowd surfer of the night went up, followed by the band pushing for more. The people happily obliged and sent themselves forward (via crowd surfing.) Their entire set was energetic and enthralling to watch and listen to. If you weren’t a fan of ARCHERS before, you definitely will be after this tour.

Formed in Austin, Texas, CATCH YOUR BREATH is a four-person band that brings chaos to the hard rock community, consisting of Teddy Herrera on guitar, and Cianan Madigan on bass, as well as vocals provided by Josh Mowery, while Onell Hernandez is on drums.

Let me just say, CATCH YOUR BREATH was explosive. Watching the boys bounce around the stage made me want to join them. I know I’m sounding repetitive but tonight was a night full of firsts. It was my first time seeing all of the openers that NOTHING MORE brought along. I couldn’t stop myself from staring at Josh Mowery. His vocals and stage presence are encapsulating. Almost every song had a really cool intro, which made me want to deep dive into their discography. Their set was full of brightly colored red and blue lights. They ended the night with a few of my favorites such as “21 Gun Salute.”, immediately followed by “Dial Tone,” and “Shame On Me”. Their set ended at 9pm. leaving the crowd tired, sweaty, and ready for NOTHING MORE.

NOTHING MORE is a band that I personally love, and this was my fourth time seeing them live. The band formed in 2003, in San Antonio, Texas. It finally hit 9:30pm, and the speakers boomed. The lights transitioned into an intense, red strobe, disorienting me as I tried to navigate into the photo pit. The fans went insane as the NOTHIN MORE boys took the stage. They opened the night with the title track, “| CARNAL |” off of their newer album ‘CARNAL’ which was released back in June of 2024. Jonny never ceases to amaze me. His vocals are insanely unique, which makes for a mesmerizing set. I couldn’t stop myself from singing along to “Let ‘em Burn” while leaving the pit.

I walked around to the back of the crowd, expecting to take a quick break. Instead what I found was a group of energetic people screaming and dancing around. I love watching moments like this, because it proves that live music brings us together. From the barricade, to the back, and to the balcony, every single person was waving their hands around, some with their flashlights on. During “FREEFALL”, Jonny brought out Nathaniel Pulley of ARCHERS which amped the people up more. NOTHING MORE ended off the night with what I consider to be their classic songs. This included hits such as “Jenny”, “Fade In/Fade Out”, and “Ocean Floor”.

Overall, this night out in Boston is a night I won’t forget. I was able to discover new music, and capture raw moments. It felt like the perfect reminder of why I love attending concerts, and why I chose concert photography. If you have a chance to catch this tour, I’d recommend it. This one is worth the late night and post-concert soreness.
