OSI -- a new project which features guitarist Jim Matheos (Fates Warning), keyboardist Kevin Moore (Chroma Key, ex-Dream Theater) and drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) – will release their debut album, Office of Strategic Influence in the fall of 2002 on InsideOut Music America. Matheos, Moore and Portnoy are the core of the band, and Moore does most of the lead vocals, but Office of Strategic Influence will also feature special guest vocalists to be announced, and guest bass guitarist Sean Malone (Gordian Knot). Stay tuned for more details. Dokken’s gig at the Icon Nightclub in Palo Alto, CA which was scheduled for September 27th has been cancelled, with no given reason. Apparently the date will be made up in November. Drummer Danny Schuler (Biohazard) has now officially joined Among Thieves, replacing Will Shepler (ex-Agnostic Front), who left the group to pursue other interests outside of the music industry. Schuler still remains a member of Biohazard, and will work with both bands. Overkill will be ready to “roll tape” beginning October 1st, utilizing Colin Richardson (ie Carcass, Fear Factory) to produce the group's forthcoming as-yet-untitled full-length album. Bassist Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jack Osbourne were among the celebrity buyers at Marilyn Manson’s personal art exhibit. Manson’s “The Golden Age of Grotesque” art exhibit will be open to the public today, Friday, September 20th, and admission is free. Spitfire Records reports the following: For the first time in its historic and storied existence, Harpo's Concert Theater in Detroit, MI actually ran out of beer. During Black Label Society's performance on Saturday, September 14th, the 3,000 seat "oldest concert theater in North America" was reportedly emptied of its last drop of the stuff as concert-goers, along with the band, took Wylde's infamous "alcohol fueled brewtality" mantra to heart. For those unable to attend (and for those who were there but can't remember) the entire show was filmed for Black Label Society's first-ever DVD release coming in 2003. It appears that guitarist Slash has confirmed that he is indeed working on an album with his other ex-Guns N’ Roses bandmates bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum, with hopes to release said album in 2003. American Dog -- which features Michael Hannon (ex-Salty Dog, ex-Dangerous Toys) – will release their sophomore effort, Red, White, Black & Blue worldwide October 1st, 2002. ‘Dog fans can get an advance copy online before it hits the shelves through the band’s Merch link or at Outlaw Recordings. Bassist Dee Dee Ramone (Ramones) did indeed die on June 5th, 2002 as a result of a heroin overdose, according to the Medical Examiner’s office in Los Angeles, CA, which filed the autopsy report on September 12th. Ramone would have turned 50 tomorrow, September 18th. Bassist Les Claypool’s Colonel Claypool's Bucket Of Bernie Brains, which also features Guns N’ Roses members guitarist Buckethead and drummer Brain, recorded their recent California gigs, which will be used in a future live album. Details to follow. The old news is the brawl that took place between vocalist Vince Neil (Motley Crue) and a record producer, who claims Neil attacked him unprovoked in April. The new news is that the producer is now suing Neil in excess of 1 million dollars, and is dragging club/restaurant owner Mario Maglieri, who runs the famous Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA, into the lawsuit, as the altercation took place in front of the establishment.

Although Blind Guardian announced that Symphony X would be their opener for their forthcoming US tour, they now claim that it has yet to be confirmed. In other news, Blind Guardian has been tapped to tour Europe with Stratovarius in early 2003. VH1’s hour-long special, Tommy Lee: The Naked Truth (the first of two), will begin airing on September 26th. Check your local listings at VH1. Vocalist Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) will sing the national anthem at an upcoming charity hockey game run by actor-comedian Denis Leary. Queens of the Stone Age will be hosting The Rock Show on MTV2 all this week (except for Wednesday). The show starts at 6pm. Drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) has cancelled his forthcoming personal in-store appearance at Cherry’s Music, Somers Pt., NJ on September 13th due to scheduling conflicts.
