Updated: Betty Blowtorch Carries On With Former L7 Guitarist Jennifer Finch

After sitting in on guitar at Betty Blowtorch's November 28th performance, former L7 guitarist Jennifer Finch has joined the group for the rest of their tour with Nashville Pussy, which runs through December 31st. Finch, who most recently played in the band Other Star People, has known remaining Blowtorch members Bianca Butthole and guitarist Blare from their days in Hollywood underground scene when they played in Butt Trumpet while Finch was in L7.
The move comes hot on the heels of the sudden departure of drummer Judy Molish and guitarist/vocalist Sharon Needles in the middle of the tour. The duo allegedly quit in the middle of their tour and left with the band’s gear and van in the middle of the night. Rumor has it that the decision was based on a dispute over the band’s current manager, who was reportedly causing a rift between the two camps. The band enlisted Nashville Pussy crew member, and drummer of Atlanta-based band Bitch, and carried on as a three piece for several shows before Finch flew out and joined them on the road to complete the tour. No word yet as to whether Finch will become a permanent member.
Molish and Needles released the following statement today through their attorney Michael Elkin: “Judy Cocuzza and Sharon Nijland have elected to terminate the partnership which established Betty Blowtorch and to terminate the band member agreement among them and the other members of the group siting irreconcilable differences. They will continue to be independently represented by HellBent Management for all future projects.”
Nashville Pussy guitarist Ruyter Suys confirmed the split last week on the Nashville Pussy message board: “Y'all might have heard that Betty Blowtorch broke up. In the middle of the night, after the Atlantic Beach gig - the BB drummer; Judy and the rhythm guitar player; Sharon took the van, trailer all the gear and even the roadie - and drove away! No one knew they'd left ‘til the next day - fucking crazy- we knew 'something' was up, but not that! The 'remains' Bianca and Blare didn't wanna stop touring so we hooked /em up with Dave who plays with one of our favorite ATL bands; BITCH! He learned the songs in one day and Betty Blowtorch sounds better than ever!! Now you can hear how good Blair is on guitar- she kicks ass! AND Jennifer Finch from L7 will be replacing Sharon by the Newport, KY gig. Fucking crazy chicks!!” No word from Betty Blowtorch on the matter yet…
