Korn bassist Fieldy will be the first member of the band to unveil his solo project. Fieldy’s album Rock n Roll Gangster will be released through Epic Records on January 22nd. However, those expecting a straight rock record from the Korn bassist will be surprised to find Fieldy’s love for hip hop has an unmistakable presence on his first solo album. “What inspires me to make music, is rap music. I’ve always loved it and having the love I have for rap made me want to do a rap album,” he explains.
Not only did Fieldy write the lyrics for the songs but he also created the majority of the beats for the album. In addition, he also played the guitars, bass, drums and keyboards on the tracks he produced. The remaining tracks were produced by Polar Bear, fellow Los Angeleno and up and coming producer.
And what would a Hip-Hop album be without stand-out cameos? Fieldy recruited some of his friends to contribute vocals including Tre from Pharcyde on the track “Sugar-Coated” and Sondoobie of Funkdoobiest on “Put a Week on It.” Of course, Korn frontman Jonathan Davis was included offering his impassioned vocals to the track “Just For Now.”
To sum up the album, Fieldy says it best, “I just wanted to put together a fun party type record. Something to party to, you know? It’s not full of gangsta rap or anything like that. To me, it’s like Cheech and Chong meets Sesame Street”
Look for the upcoming single and video, “Are You Talkin to Me.”
