THE DEAD DAISIES Burn It Down By Andrew Depedro, Ottawa Corespondent Monday, May 14, 2018 @ 2:07 PM
The first three songs that set off Burn It Down are already evidence that the album keeps up an unwavering momentum, in the form of “Resurrected”, the fiery protest number and album single “Rise Up” and the title track featuring some of Mendoza’s best bass work. Aldrich’s solos shine effortlessly with the help of the rustic groove of Lowy’s rhythm parts and both guitarists can work a mean slide on “Judgement Day” - an almost subtly-titled song given Aldrich’s past work with WHITESNAKE. And what can be said about that high-energy cover of “Bitch” other than that it’s easily the closest version of the STONES classic that could surpass it. Slowing the pace down a bit midway would be the rolling blues-like track “Set Me Free”, which captures the soulful side of Corabi’s voice. Finally, the closing tracks give Burn It Down its true groove thanks to the attitude-laden rockers “Dead And Gone” and “Leave Me Alone”.
In short, THE DEAD DAISIES have plenty of embers stoking their fire on Burn It Down and beyond. Watch for them to light up North America this summer when they’re out on tour with HOOKERS ‘N BLOW.
