Satyricon Ink 3-Album Deal With eatURmusic By Sefany Jones, Contributing Editor Tuesday, February 17, 2004 @ 1:06 PM
SATYRICON SIGNS WITH MALAKIAN'S eatURmusic Satyricon, one of the most well-respected and legendary bands on the European Black Metal scene, has signed an agreement with eatURmusic, the label run by System of a Down producer/guitarist Daron Malakian. The agreement calls for eatURmusic to license three Satyricon albums for exclusive distribution in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Asia and Australia. Volcano, Satyricon's first CD for eatURmusic, as well as the label's debut release, is set for an April 6, 2004 release in the U.S. and will be marketed by RED Ink and distributed by RED Distribution in conjunction with Columbia Records/SONY Music. Release dates in the international territories will be announced shortly. "Anyone who knows Black Metal knows that Satyricon is that genre's premiere band," said Malakian. "I have been a huge fan of the Black Metal scene for years, and I am so honored that Satyricon has signed with my label. Volcano is an exceptional record, in my opinion, the best they've recorded; it's honest, it has integrity, and I feel it will introduce them to a new audience." Volcano was recently released in Europe, and has met with great success. The album has already been recognized with four awards -- it has received the Norwegian Grammy for "Best Metal Album," two Alarm awards, one for "Song of the Year" for the track "Fuel For Hatred," and the other in the category of "Metal Album of the Year," and The Oslo Award for "Best Overall Album." Robert Muller, journalist for Metal Hammer Germany raves, "This darkness is no romantic invention, no abstract delusion, but derived from firsthand experience. The sound of Volcano is the sound of the cozy cocoon of civilization torn apart, it envisions the cold emptiness behind." EatURmusic's roster also includes the hard-core punk band Amen whose label debut, Death Before Music, will be released on May 18.
