Randy Rhoads Inducted Into Hollywood Rock Walk By Sefany Jones, Contributing Editor Monday, March 22, 2004 @ 9:46 AM
"Just back from the Guitar Center Rock Walk introduction for Randy. What a GREAT turnout of family, friends and fans… maybe 300-400 total.
"Dave Weiderman, Director of the Rock Walk, began the festivities and induction presentation followed by words from Stew Herrara of KLOS (nee KNAC 105.5) then a real heartfelt speech read by bassist Rudy Sarzo, former Grim Reaper guitarist Nick Bowcott, now Marshall Amplification rep, read a faxed letter from founder Jim Marshall who could not be in attendance on this day. In the body of that letter Mr. Marshall stated: "He had never met Randy in person, but was aware of his amazing guitar work and that he was proud to have him play his gear and make his amps sound amazing." Then Ozzy, Delores and Sharon all spoke to the anxious crowd speaking very highly of the late great guitarist.
"When it came time for the unveiling of the face plaque, it was a bit mortifying for a few seconds after all the cameras were flashing... it was learned that Randy's last name was spelled wrong!
"Rhodes" instead of "Rhoads" Ouch.
"Tons of photographic proof of it too. No matter -- it will be rectified of course, but to me, that is something that is manditory to proofread.
Oh, but the cringe fest was on for the next few minutes.
"Afterwards there was a photoshoot and private get together back in the store."
