Bad Acid Trip Tour With Motograter By Sefany Jones, Contributing Editor Monday, June 28, 2004 @ 4:35 PM
Move Over P. T. Barnum – The Circus is Coming To Town, and Bad Acid Trip Is In the Center Ring Bad Acid Trip To Support Motograter on June/July Dates System of a Down’s Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian have joined forces to unleash Bad Acid Trip, a musical/theatrical experience that will most likely knock the wind out of you, and then leave you begging for more. And they’re hitting the road this week for five weeks worth of dates opening for Motograter. Armed with some of the most innovative and eccentric circus-grind-jazz-metal-thrash-punk music you've ever heard, when Bad Acid Trip sets foot back on the concert trail, rock shows as we know them may never been the same. This tour is in support of Bad Acid Trip's CD, Lynch The Weirdo, released on April 20 on Serjical Strike/Columbia Records, the label owned by System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian. Lynch The Weirdo was produced by System's guitarist Daron Malakian, and is a collection of 17 tracks all written and performed by Bad Acid Trip - Dirk Rogers (vocals), Keith Aazami (guitars), Chris Mackie (bass), Jose Perez (drums), and is a triumph of harnessed insanity. “Bad Acid Trip is an extremely original band mixing many genres musically and characters visually to give you a mesmerizing overstimulation of your senses,” commented Tankian. “You will not fully understand how innovative – out of their minds/insane – Bad Acid Trip is until you come to one of their shows.” Ah, yes, Bad Acid Trip’s stage show. Welcome to the Twilight Zone, folks, as this band’s live performances give a whole new definition to the term “performance art.” All four members of Bad Acid Trip make sure that the concert experience is unique; they’ve gone on stage outfitted in tailor-made costumes and movie props including side-show midgets, middle-aged Satanists, a Priest of All Religions, Jack Skellington, lesbians with full breast prosthetics, go-go dancers, George Bush (Sr. and Jr.), zombies, Iron Maiden’s monster “Eddie,” a Dungeons & Dragons nerd, and a “Mad Max/Road Warrior” costume. A 200-pound gay tennis player, a group of dominatrix, an on-stage mummification, self-floggings, bondage, an array of decapitated heads, clowns, gay vampires, and a figure nailed to a cross have also made special appearances. No two shows are ever alike, and sometimes the band performs sans visual accoutrements so you know they’re not dependent on theatrical props. Mix these eye-popping visuals with outstanding musicianship, and you’ve got a band not to be missed. Front-man Rogers is a professional special make-up effects artist (his day job even now), and he’s worked on films such as Faust, Minority Report, and the Stephen King television mini-seriesThe Shining, as well as the upcoming major motion pictures Collateral and The Stepford Wives. He’s also provided his wizardry in music videos for dozens of artists from Aerosmith to Korn, Don Henley to Marilyn Manson, Missy Elliott to ‘N Sync. “The live performances will be very important to Bad Acid Trip’s success,” said Tankian. “Heavy music usually requires a stepped-up performance aspect, and their on-stage visuals are just amazing. This band is wacky, fun, but serious as a heart attack. If you’re still standing after seeing the band live, you’re standing at their booth buying the CD.” Confirmed tour dates for Bad Acid Trip with Motograter are as follows:
