SEVEN KINGDOMS Empty Eyes EP By Alex Yarborough, Orlando Contributor Friday, September 6, 2019 @ 1:46 PM
There are five songs on Empty Eyes, lasting around 21 minutes. Track one is the title track “Empty Eyes”, a solid mid-tempo power metal song. Sabrina’s haunting voice works well with this type of melody. “Monster” opens with some nice guitar harmonies from Camden and Kevin and then takes off, with Keith injecting some double bass drums occasionally and Tyler laying down a bouncing bass line. A nice lead vocal here from Sabrina, and a growl or two from backing vocalists make this song interesting. I hear something different each time I listen to it.
Speedy number “The Water Dance” is probably my favorite track (video on KNAC.COM HERE), a nice reference to Arya Stark and her sword fighting style and later story arc with the lyric, “The North remembers.” Ballad “Valonquar”, which references Cersei Lannister’s prophecy, slows things down for a few minutes with this nice interlude. The final song is an outstanding cover of HEART’s “Barracuda”, a classic rock song that is well suited to heavier, “metalized” versions. Certainly not the first time this has been done, but it’s done here with conviction. Some nice drum textures, fabulous vocals and ripping guitar work make this a fun track.
With Empty Eyes, SEVEN KINGDOMS band has a renewed energy, and is looking to make music on a more frequent basis, which will be exciting to hear. The band sounds fantastic. You can pre-order Empty Eyes at THIS LOCATION.
