DESTRUCTION Born To Thrash - Live in Germany By Alex Yarborough, Orlando Contributor Friday, December 11, 2020 @ 1:02 PM
Party.San is a festival that features death, black, thrash, doom and grindcore bands, so DESTRUCTION are gods at an event like this and fans are already aboard the train of DESTRUCTION in their home country of Germany. The first thing I noticed was how great Randy and Damir sound, and they definitely raise the bar for this band in a live setting. Schmier’s bass and fierce vocals are on display as well. Mike Sifringer is the rock on guitar, and allows Damir to take over lead guitar for the most part. This band is a real juggernaut of veteran metal musicians.
Schmier addresses the monstrous crowd mostly in German, who are moderately engaged for the majority of the show. As previously mentioned, this set is from a festival and features 10 tracks. DESTRUCTION pulls out only two songs from last year’s Born To Perish album, the title track and “Betrayal”. The rest are classics, including “Mad Butcher”, “Total Desaster”, “Bestial Invasion”, “Curse The Gods”, “Life Without Sense”, “The Butcher Strikes Back”, “Nailed To The Cross” and “Thrash Till Death”. All songs are performed with total intensity.
The DVD features two live clips from the festival, “Nailed To The Cross” and “Born To Perish”. There is a featurette on the making of Born To Perish, which is mostly in German, and a brief interview with Randy Black on how to survive a tour (in English). A rather interesting few minutes are included of the band performing for socially distanced fans in a club in Switzerland during the pandemic in the summer of 2020. Schmier addresses the camera in English for this section. Born To Thrash is a welcome window into the world of DESTRUCTION in 2020. This 53-minute album is easy to digest in one listening. The graphics, layout and design of this digipak are all first rate.
Born To Thrash - Live In Germany is available now from Deko in digipak CD (with bonus DVD), two-LP vinyl (as well as a limited blue and black splatter option) and bundle options with a patch and T-shirt. Get yours today at the link below.
